The last concert Lynyrd Skynyrd will play is going to be a hometown affair. Yesterday (April 20), they revealed one more date to their Last of the Street Survivors Farewell Tour: a Sept. 2 date at EverBank Field in Jacksonville, Fla., the city where the band was formed.
According to News4Jax, the band broke the news at the stadium, where the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars play, during the team's annual State of the Franchise event. Kid Rock and Jason Aldean are slated as the opening acts, and others will be announced at a later date. It will be the first concert at the stadium since 2015.
"This is a dream come true for the Lynyrd Skynyrd band,” singer Johnny Van Zant said at the presentation. “We're going to rock the house here. ... My brother and Gary [Rossington] and Allen Collins started this band a long time ago. We are on our farewell tour. It’s time to wrap it up. To be able to play Jacksonville, here, with the Jags, come on. It doesn’t get any better than that.”
“We are very excited to have friends Jason Aldean and Kid Rock join us in our hometown of Jacksonville,” Rossington added. “Playing where the band got its start all those years ago is always special but having these guys with us makes it even sweeter. We can’t wait to rock EverBank Field!”
Tickets go on sale on April 30 at 10AM, with various pre-sales beginning April 24 at 10AM. Skynyrd's tour begins on May 4 at the Coral Sky Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach, Fla, and you can see all the dates here. “It’s hard to imagine, after all these years, the band that Ronnie Van Zant, Allen Collins and myself started back in Jacksonville, would resonate for this long and to so many generations of fans," Rossington said at the time. "I’m certain they are looking down from above, amazed that the music has touched so many."
Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

October 1977 waited two days in line at New Haven Coliseum.
Was #1 in line and had the whole front row.
That night the plane crashed.
LS was never the same.
Will be attending the Bethel Woods show as my final good bye.

Not enough credit has been given to the new music Skynyrd created post crash. . Listened to 1991 and God and Guns over the weekend and both albums had plenty of great songs . The Skynyrd station on Sirius has been playing a nice variety of pre and post crash music .

It's time they stopped calling themselves Lynyrd Skynyrd. They suck.

YAAAAWN............

Sorry RayG my friend...gotta agree with Mr. Woods that band died with the plane crash......how sad also OMFTR is easily top 5 live albums of all time...just my .02

Great story, thanks for sharing. I'm from Hamden, CT when I was growing up there was (and still is) a very strong Lynyrd Skynyrd following.

Finally a LS thread that should make everyone happy. For those that have wanted it to end, this is a reason to celebrate.
Long career for some of them and sadly a far too short career for other members.
The newer versions never released a studio album that did much for me but the shows were a good party and had fun at many.
Expectations of mine were based on a fun night of good tunes with friends. They always provided it and while some tours and lineups were better than others. They were never "bad" and always provided a decent show. People sure had fun and loved the songs.
Those original albums were important to me as they were to most of you. I stole/learned lots of guitar licks from those boys. LOL - I am sure many of you can say the same also.
Wish them all happiness and a long life.

It won't happen, but it sure would be great to invite Ed King and Artimus Pyle back for the final gig. I might go if I knew they were going to be a part of it.
The 1987 reunion tour was tremendous (and legit) and Johnny had a pretty dang good voice 30 years ago. Saw them multiple times in the early 90s also, which were fun (by that time Artimus was out of the band). Gary, Johnny & Co fun at Wanee a handful of years ago (caught most of that set).
And their original run of 6 albums through Street Survivors is bedrock rock music. One More From the Road is a desert island album for me.
Glad they are wrapping it up.

I had tickets for Syracuse.
Saw the remnants in 93 or 94.

I had tickets to see Skynyrd with Ted Nugent and Rex at Madison Square Garden. Nugent went on to perform with just Rex that night. I was a big fan of Nugent and he was excellent that night. But I never got a chance to see the original Skynyrd.
