The NYT did an interesting piece about how lying is now part of American culture. Presidents Nixon, LBJ, Clinton & Trump were the most facile liars among modern presidents & members of Trump's administration have been convicted of lying under oath. Most of us expect politicians to lie. Celebrities lie to promote their products and/or protect their privacy. The rest of us can routinely lie, particularly through social media. FB & IG users can concoct the most glamorous/wealthy/exciting lives & thousands of followers believe them even if they've never met or haven't seen them since high school.
Trump's former campaign manager Corey Lewandowski said he had no compunction about lying on TV. He thinks certain media are biased & therefore, he doesn't feel a need to be truthful or candid.
He's absolutely right. Lying isn't considered a bad character trait anymore. He makes a good case to never watch political talk shows. They're as fake as any reality TV show.
Makes me glad I don't have any SM accounts or a TV.

True, but I was surprised someone admitted that there's not even a pretense of being truthful. What I find amazing isn't the political stuff; it's the normal people who actually believe what they see on SM - like "remember that geek from 7th grade? He's a billionaire married to a Brazilian supermodel and owns a Ferrari AND a Lamborghini. He lives part of every year in Fiji. Cool."

Governments the world over lie regularly. The FBI lies. Apparently special counsel Durham is going to show the FBI lied about Trump and Carter Page to get warrants because they thought the new President was a Russian agent while Trump was lying about not having any business plans in Russia. The FBI under Hoover spread lots of lies about Dr. King.
I'm not sure what LBJ lied about but there is an interesting video on You Tube...LBJ orders pants and he tells the man on the phone he loves the pants but the pockets are too short. When he sits down his money and knife falls out so take the new ones out about an inch and half in the pockets and from the zipper down to where my nuts hang on back to my bung hole.

Well, we can always count on both the FBI and the CIA telling the truth!
The premise of lying is that people are to be used.
There is the deliberate lie, distortion or evasion either to avoid some unpleasantness or reinforce one's own or group's power (using power against truth). Then there are those with strong beliefs in some key principle or "ism" based on faith or creed that will always place belief before truth (not really lying but denial). With more avenues for expression in both social and commercial media it now seems that the quantity with which an item is repeated is increasingly more important than what may be actually factual.

Interesting topic
I see lying all the time at work, both with clients and with coworkers.
It is almost expected now, whether to make yourself look better, more important, cool, interesting, etc..
The key now is to try to be smart enough to see through it all and identify those who lie routinely and separate truth from fiction. It aint easy.
I have some religious clients and have found those folks to be a pleasure to do business with since they are straightforward. These people are easy reads.
I despise the entire political game and do my best to stay out of that fray.
