Let's Continue The Weekend REAL Purdy-like..........

That was really nice. One of my favorite songs.

Thanks
those were both great
fwiw, when I clicked on this thread I was thinking the Purdy shuffle. Love that guy

Sweet Mama live 1984. Billy Joe wrote it and son Eddy plays a nice slide guitar on the second solo. BTW Dickey Betts taught Eddy how to play guitar and gave Eddy the 1955 guitar being used here. Dickey got it in the early days of the ABB when Gregg traded it to Dickey for an old car Dickey had. I remember Dickey playing an old raggedy Strat at Ludlow Garage in Cincinnati in early 1970 and Duane sang Dimples. Dickey at the same time also gave Eddy an ES-335 tobaccoburst that Duane Allman owned but I never saw any footage of Eddy using it. Willie Nelson has both of those guitars now.
Sadly Eddy Shaver died of an heroin overdose in December, 2000 at age 38. Dickey and Willie Nelson attended the funeral.

The Allman Brothers covered Seeet Mama in 1975 on Win, Loose and Draw.
BTW, Jaimoe and Butch don't play on this track. The sessions were so disjointed and disorganized Johnny Sandlin couldn't find Jaimoe and Butch and Dickey rolled in wanting to record now. So Johnny and Bill Stewart play drums and Gregg isn't on the track. Gregg was in Los Angeles with Cher.

What I understand, from an extremely reliable witness, is that during that time some band members didn't want to record with others in the studio and it got so bad that at times there was only one band member in the studio at a time.
