When I listened to a CD I recently bought there's a song by Shawn Colvin called "Killing the Blues". I knew I had heard it before so I did some digging and I have it by Robert Plant & Allison Krauss. But the version I like the best is by John Prine. I saw him a few years before he passed. I don't recall if he played it that night or not.

By the name of the title I would think it was some old blues number but that couldn't be further from the truth. It's a beautiful slow, kind of sad song. It was written by a guy named Rowland Salley. I've never heard of him.

Does anyone know anything more about the song?

I discovered this instrumental version some years ago and looked it up and Killing The Blues was written by Rowland Salley who recorded the original version and Salley is or maybe was by now the bass player in Chris Isaak's band.

I only know the Plant/Krauss version.  The instrumental clip above is quite nice on the ears... thanks
