They're doing a 6 night residency at the Beacon in the fall, right? That's a clear sign of drawing power.

Like Rob said, Derek made the choice to focus on being a bandleader, song writer and producer and to promote his wife as an artist.

Curious about why you think Susan needed to be promoted by Derek. I've seen both of them on separate occasions playing the exact same clubs so I don't really think one needed to be promoted any more than the other. Seems to me that they were probably about the same as far as commercial success is concerned. For whatever that is worth.

Seems like her solo career was going along fine.

Actually both her album sales and ticket sales were higher but why get caught up in details? 😛

Now combined they have entered the major leagues. Now who the hell would want to reach the highest levels of success in their chosen trade? And all that extra damn money. Now he has to worry about how to spend it all. What a burden that must be. What are all those people thinking by going to shows and buying new releases? Don't they know it sucks? 😉

Is Derek not aware that he is 36 and running out of time to do various things musically before the retirement home?

"It appears that TTB is commercially successful."

Well, to bring this thread full circle, Tedeschi Trucks was THE headliner for that day at Jazz Fest this year. I don't mean they were just the final act on that particular stage. They were the number one act on the bill that day, period. First name on the marquee, if you will.

Maybe I'm just biased because of my love for Jazz Fest, but that is a big time gig, no matter how you slice it. Seems like they are doing just fine.

So you are agreeing with my statement that the TTB is commercially successful?

I did not say Derek needed to promote Susan, but that he chose to do so. He has made this clear repeatedly. Given the commercial success they have achieved, it was clearly a good choice. The music of the TTB is far more palatable to the general public than DTB would ever be.

And she chose to promote Derek. Or they were promoting themselves and using their partner to do so.

I would imagine that Susan could give Derek a lift.

You seem pretty certain about her ability. Is there anything else you want to bring up about the subject?

Maybe he will do like Santana who is emerging from his Supernatural band to do some work with John McLaughlin, Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter. >>>

That's what I'm talking about. Something more musically sophisticated.

PS - Jim S. I agree Derek is more outgoing now. I assume he is of the age where he can just be and not care what people think, which is a good age, yes.

If I was Derek I would be a wimp and take it lying down.

Yes, I was just using the gig that started this thread as an example of how commercially successful they are.

Like I said, to bring the thread full circle.
