Singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell -- who's synonymous with the Woodstock generation -- was rushed to a hospital after a 911 call from her home Tuesday.
Sources tell us paramedics went to 71-year-old Mitchell's Los Angeles home around 2:30 PM. We're told the 911 call was for an unconscious female, but she was alert on the way to the hospital.
Mitchell was in intensive care late Tuesday. It's unclear what prompted the medical emergency, but it appears to be quite serious.
We've put in several calls to Joni's rep ... but haven't heard back.
Mitchell's best known for her hit, "Big Yellow Taxi" ... which the Counting Crows famously covered in 2002. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.

I read this last night before I went to bed. I immediately put on the headphones and listened to about twenty minutes of her music. That stuff sure does sound good.

Joni Mitchell is in a coma with no immediate prospects of getting better. TMZ reports that the legendary singer-songwriter’s close friend, Leslie Morris, has filed to obtain conservatorship over her, as she has no close relatives that could do so. According to the publication, the documents filed by Morris claim that Mitchell, who is 71 years old, is “so impaired as to be incapable of being assessed.”While her diagnosis has not yet been revealed, Mitchell was rushed to the hospital on March 31 after she was found unconscious in her home. She has been at the UCLA Medical Center since then, though the most recent official update on her situation—posted on April 3—said that she was “under observation and resting comfortably.”
Joni Mitchell is unconscious in the hospital and unable to make medical decisions for herself, according to the Associated Press.
The information comes from a court filing from Leslie Morris, Mitchell's friend for more than 44 years, who is seeking to be named Mitchell's conservator.
The filing includes a declaration from a doctor stating the 71-year-old folk singer will likely be unable to attend any court hearings for the next four to six months. No other details on her condition or prognosis were included in the filing, according to the AP.
