Joe Bonamassa

I saw a show on T.V. last night that was Joe at Carnegie Hall in an all acoustic show. After watching the show I have a new respect for Joe. The band was great especially the piano player and the Bass/Cello player who also played an instrument I am not familiar with that made some great sounds, almost like a flute at times. The backup singers were dressed in what looked like Indian and or Polynesian clothing. I thought they were going to play Asian music and it ended up they sounded like soul singers from an R & B group, very good voices. All in all an enjoyable experience that will convince me to buy the Blu Ray as the show was only part of the concert. Even if you don't like Joe I would recommend it as he is more restrained than normal and allows the band to show their stuff and they really do. Excellent show.

That piano player was likely Reese Wynans who was in Second Coming with Dickey and Berry plus rehearsed with the future ABB before Gregg arrived.
He later played with Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble.
He has been in Bonamassa's band on a lot of his recent tours.

Yes it was Reese on that performance.

I had an old friend back in the 1970s (He is dead now) who played saxophone in several club band who grew up in Daytona Beach and not only saw Ronnie Van Zandt and Allen Collins in the 1 per cent back in 1970 but saw Second Coming several times. They had developed a good following in northern Florida in and around Jacksonville and had a single out that didn't sell much but did get radio play. Dickey later said that was done so club owners could hear the band and he sang on one side and Berry on the other. But back to the story, the last time he saw Second Coming Dickey, Berry and Reese were still in the band but Duane Allman, Butch Truck's and Jaimoe had replaced the other guys. Dickey, Duane and Berry took turns singing.
Dickey later said he and Berry went to Duane and said we dont sing as good as the band can play so you need to call your brother to sing and play keys.
But Jaimoe has said Duane told him he was planning on replacing Reece with Gregg all along.

I enjoyed Joe in concert recently. He is very clean and has lots of energy and yes he often does those fast shredding runs which gets as tiring to me as Eddie Van Halen's double hammer ons in 30 minutes or so, but Joe kicked behind on some slow blues. Especially the two he played on an old Strat. Dirty and loud coaxing some notes out of it that reminded me of SRV on a hot night.
