This is inspired by the thread about Page's sloppy playing at the ARMs show.

While very little that Page did after Zepp really made any impact, he has done quite a bit of stuff. Here is a list off the top of my head:

-Honeydrippers
-Death Wish 2 soundtrack
-one song on Box of Frogs
-The Firm's 2 albums
-one song on a Stephen Stills album
-one song on Willie and the Poor Boys?
-Roy Harper, "Jugula"
-2 songs on Robert Plant's "Now and Zen"
-Page / Coverdale
-Outrider
-Page / Plant "Unledded" and then "Walking into Clarksdale"
-1 song on a Sun Records tribute
-1 song on a Rainer Ptacek tribute
- live disc with Black Crowes

______________________________________________________________

I'm sure I missed a few. Anyway, my picks for his best stuff 1980-2020:

-"Who's to Blame" with Steve Winwood, live from ARMS, originally on Death Wish 2.

-The Firm's live version of "Live in Peace." Page played a great solo on the coda; this was on the flip side of the 12" single of of one of the radio hits from the first album.

- The Firm, "Closer." Cool riff. The sax player takes the solo.

-"Writes of Winter" from "Outrider." An instrumental with cool riffing and some solid lead playing.

- "The Only One" from "Outrider." Robert Plant vocals. Great guitar construction albeit no real solo.

- "Shake My Tree" and "Pride and Joy" from Coverdale / Page. Again, cool guitar constructions albeit no solos.

-"Shining in the Light" from "Walking into Clarksdale." Yet again, I'll say it: cool guitar parts and no solo.

Oh, he is on the Stones' "One Hit to the Body" also, which is OK.

Listened to a podcast last week about the Covedale Page release. I always liked it and thought it to be pretty good stuff. I kinda cherry picked some songs that I would play over the years and skipped some that really did not resonate with me at that time.

This is one that I would kinda gloss over. I think what caught my attention is the solo. Is it one of his greats? Who knows, but its very tasty and well done. No doubt who is playing that.
Go to the 2:50 mark....just ignore the cheesy dated video! 😛 😛 😛

Coverdale/Page has lots of great moments. As good as Zeppelin - no - but who cares. That is the attitude that keeps artist like Page from releasing stuff. Always gets compared.

Same with The Firm - there is some really great music there - for me it is Tony Franklin's fretless bass that kills their sound. And it is on every track. Amazed that Page never said " Ummmm Tony.......how about some frets this time?"

Yeah, never got the fretless bass tone thing. Weird.

I always liked Chris Slades drum intro to Someone To Love and Jimmy comes in riffing on top of it.

I know it was a one-off, but I always thought the Knebworth 1990 concert reunion of Page & Plant was pretty cool. Talk about deep track, but to lead off with a cut from Coda that Zep never played live was, well, a deep cut. Not the greatest Zep song of all time, but pretty cool nonetheless. And in many ways, beats kicking off the set with Communication Breakdown or Black Dog.

It was cool but not an opening song. It was a Robert Plant show and Jimmy came out near the end. They played Misty Mountain Hop, Wearing and Tearing and Rock and Roll.

But aside from that - it was a cool choice and right for the band as Plant's band was a little "metalish" at that point.

Hurting Kind (I've Got My Eyes on You)
Immigrant Song
(Led Zeppelin song)
Tie Dye on the Highway
Liars Dance
Going to California
(Led Zeppelin song)
Nirvana
Tall Cool One
Misty Mountain Hop
(Led Zeppelin song) (with Jimmy Page)
Wearing and Tearing
(Led Zeppelin song) (with Jimmy Page)
Rock and Roll

I always found it strange that Plant played so many Zeppelin tunes but Jimmy only comes out for 3.

I need to go back and revisit Coverdale Page. I'm obviously a Zep fan and a Whitesnake 1978-1984 fan
and like some of the Coverdale Deep Purple era too.

I got to see Jimmy twice. On the 2nd Firm tour and 1 Page/Plant tour. 1998 was the closest I got to seeing the might Zep. They got away with playing more deep cuts (and no Stairway) than they would have had JPJ been with them.....though I wish that were the case too.

Jimmy's lack of production since Zep broke up is puzzling.

I've saw Plant in the mid-80s (with Robbie Blunt on guitar), 1990, Wanee with Band of Joy about 8 years ago (soo good) and then again a couple years ago.

I finally got to see JPJ with the Dave Rawlings Machine. One of the 10 best concerts I've ever seen. JPJ was great on mandolin...bobbing and waeaving with Dave on night long....and baritone harmony vocals.

And too young to have seen Bonzo...he died when I was 11.

Heroin + alcohol

Throw in not picking up the guitar often and being stuck in 1975.

Jimmy has had a belief that if he walks on stage and boogies and poses that it will all be good.

Watching the 1990 set when he joins Plant and his band - Jimmy is just not prepared. His solo to R&R is terrible as if he thought it would all just come back to him in the moment.

Then Jimmy became the Keeper of all things Zeppelin. Far more money involved with boxsets, packages and DVDs with Led Zeppelin than some new release. Also his pride and joy so I understand wanting to oversee it.

After Zeppelin, a clean and straight Jimmy Page should have become a Producer. He could have worked his studio magic for other acts.
