Yes Lee you're correct, can't remember the exact venues but they were also up north, maybe Minnesota and then 1 or 2 around Toronto. A couple of the shows they did a Jack tune, 'I Can Fix It', and Jack sang Dimples a couple nights, always a treat. He'll occasionally still play it at his shows these days, pretty cool. Another rarity in 2005 they played Knoxville and Jack sat in for a couple, including playing bass on a tune (Statesboro maybe?).

9/23/00 is scorching-haven’t pulled it up in years. Gregg was in powerful voice-the sho band followed the energy.
Derek and Jimmy were dynamic.
A real joy.
Thanks for this thread.

As I have posted before, that was actually a great summer run. The 7-22 Detroit show was awesome. The Montage show was great as you said. Another one was the 7-30 Toronto show which also included Mule.

One I also attended was 8-1 in Toledo. This was an exception. It was SOOOOOOOOOOO bad. The venue was basically in a high school gym. They ran out of beer. 😮 Good thing about it though was that was the first time I saw Little Feat. Smile

Everything in Moderation. Including Moderation.

Someone posted they were glad there was a other keyboard player at a summer 2000 show because they were tired of Gregg's predictable keyboard solos and glad Dickey was gone as they were tired of the same set lists over and over. Maybe Matt Abbs and name another drummer should have played for Jaimoe and Butch Trucks and call that the Allman Brothers Band.

The 2000 lineup rubbed me the wrong way the second time I saw them because I was told at the show by an old fan the big news is Dickey is suing the band and is not wanted back and feels he is being impersonated. A fan since my first ABB show in Feburary 1970 and 30 years into this classic band and on the front line is a bass player in his 3rd year, Derek Trucks year into his time in the band, Jimmy Herring brand new??? Maybe we just needed an entirely new band with a new name that played some ABB songs. It just rubbed me the wrong way and I walked on my favorite band for 5 years.

And Dickey claiming Jimmy Herring was impersonating him. Dickey had a point. I'm sure some people in the audience thought Jimmy was that guitar player that wrote Jessica and Liz Reed.

And Jimmy Herring, to his credit ( he is a hell of a guitar player), rejected an invitation to take the chair of the best all around guitar player the ABB ever had.

I didn't warm up again to the band until about 2005 with Warren back. Warren had been in the band from 1989 to 1997 so he wasn't impersonating or replacing anybody.

Anyway just to give this some balance, the new blood 2000 line up didnt set well with me. I went 5 years before I saw them again after NEVER missing a chance to see the band beginning in Feburary of 1970.

Remember nothing wrong with Jimmy. I really like him and enjoyed him last time I saw Panic. Jimmy thought he was filling in for one of his heroes Dickey Betts until Dickey could get help and meet with Gregg and Butch that fall. When he was offered Dickey's chair in the band fulltime by Butch, Jimmy wisely declined. Jimmy said no one had ever replaced a living original member and it wasn't going to be me.

I was not keen on seeing the Jimmy + Derek lineup in 2000 because I was seriously bummed Dickey was gone. They didn't come to Atlanta since they had already played here for Music Midtown 5/23 (turned out to be the final show with Dickey).

That said, I've listened to 9/23/00 over the years a ton and others from that summer. Tighter band than they were with Dickey over the previous couple years. Great suggestions on shows in this thread.

I did see the lineup of Gregg, Butch, Jaimoe, Warren, Oteil and Jimmy play at Warren's Christmas Jam that December 2000. Gregg & Warren did a few songs on acoustic and then everyone else walked on stage and we got a defacto unannounced ABB set (ABB with Warren + Jimmy plus Marc had also done a set at the One for Woody memorial too).

Lineup changes in general don't tend to be good for bands, but the different ABB lineups over the years make for very interesting listening. And of course they invited world class musicians who "got it" into the band
