LONDON (AP) — Former Kinks bassist Jim Rodford has died after a fall. He was 76.

The Zombies, the group Rodford had played with since 1999, confirmed the death of the British musician on their Facebook page Saturday.

Zombies co-founder Rod Argent says his cousin and longtime bandmate was a “magnificent bass player.”

Rodford joined The Kinks in 1978, touring with the group and playing on its later albums. Ray Davies, The Kinks’ co-founder, tweeted that Rodford was “an integral part of the Kinks later years.”

Argent also highlighted Rodford’s commitment to music in St Albans, north of London, where he lived his entire life.

Argent says “Jim’s life was dedicated to music. He was unfailingly committed to local music – an ever-present member of the local scene in St. Albans.”

Sad to see this. Jim was a great part of the late 70s and early 80s arena comeback era of the Kinks and was onboard for 18 years. This was "my Kinks." He had a great stage presence, added great background vocals and some great baselines to thinks like "I Want to Fly Like Superman", which had a cool disco groove to it but the Kinks pulled it off with good crunchy chords.

I had always hoped Ray, Dave and Mick had reunited with Jim and Ian Gibbons (keyboardist) for another tour.

He had some great stuff with Argent and the latter Zombies too. What a career!

RIP Jim.

Just saw him perform live with the Zombies two weeks ago in Fort Lauderdale. I was also surprised to see that he was Rod Argent’s cousin.

I loved his work with the Kinks and second the idea that he was a big part of their resurrection in the late 70’s and 80’s. My favorite album of that period is Sleepwalker which was not an album he appeared on (original bassist John Dalton was on it) but Misfits is a close 2nd which is all Rodford on bass.

Saw him live with the Kinks over a half dozen times and he was memorable with great backup vocals.

RIP Jim.
An important member of three great bands. I was lucky enough to have a chat with him in Edinburgh a couple of years ago before a Zombies gig. Friendly and unassuming with a sense of humour as well
