Jethro Tull WarChild (2CD/2DVD) deluxe edition

In 1974, Jethro Tull announced plans for WarChild, a multi-faceted project that was to encompass a feature-length film, a soundtrack album, as well a new album from the band. In October of that year, Tull released a 10-song album that would climb to #2 in the U.S. and the top 15 in the U.K., but the film and accompanying soundtrack were shelved. To commemorate the 40-year anniversary of this ambitious experiment, Parlophone revisits WarChild.

WARCHILD: THE 40TH ANNIVERSARY THEATRE EDITION will be available as a limited edition 2-CD/2-DVD set on November 25 2014.

Highlights from the set include:
- Original album and bonus tracks (three previously unreleased), remixed in 5.1 surround and stereo by Steven Wilson.
- 10 orchestral pieces (nine previously unreleased) written for the film s soundtrack, 4 of which are remixed in 5.1 surround and stereo by Steven Wilson.
- Flat transfers of the original LP mix at 96/24, and the quadrophonic version (with 2 bonus tracks) in 4.0.
- The Third Hoorah promo footage, and footage from a January 1974 photo session/press conference where the WarChild project was announced.
- An 80-page booklet featuring an extensive history of the project, a film script synopsis, track-by-track annotations by Ian Anderson, plus rare and unseen photographs.

I can't believe he re=released this. War Child was such a disappointment at the time.
After' Benefit', which was amazing, the next tour and LP was Aqualung that was phenomenal followed up immediately by Thick as a Brick which took Tull's live show to a whole new level. Jethro Tull literally landed on the beach from the UK & took America by storm at the time. They could do no wrong and the anticipation was so great worldwide for their next LP. I remember it well. I remember sitting in the audience along with 19000 others anxiously waiting before the show began, you could feel the excitement and buzz of the audience & the media built his next release so high. Tull were no longer just a show they were an 'Event'!
And then the show began;
"War Child" & Ian Anderson entered & was wearing-what??? a Loincloth!! that should have been the 1st clue...to exit. Then the show began..culminating with s/thing about a"rabbit who lost its spectacles" or something. This show was sooo bad! The audience was Stunned!.
After this the critics crucified Ian Anderson & he lashed back out at them defending his work. Ian & Tull were never the same again after that & Anderson held a deep mistrust & resentment towards critics & reviewers (& possibly fans) after this. Don't forget, this was his 'masterpiece' & what he was 'secretly' working on for years.,it was really hard to believe at the time after 'Thick' & Aqualung & the amazing shows & musicianship that he would release something like War Child. What was he thinking? Try as we might as fans to like it..it was tough.I will never forget that night & where I was sitting even, stunned. Thinking back now maybe Ian was hanging out too much with Terry Gillian & the Python gang or something & they were overindulging..

I guess someone's trying to cash in again now or Ians not given up on it yet.I know he really took it hard at the time.(talk of nervous breakdowns & such) I want to listen to it again now & see if it sounds any better.

Wow that is WAY too much War Child! I agree that it's not their best album, so I suppose only the true Jethro Tull fanatic will want to wade through all of those outtakes and alternate projects.

War Child songs were more acceptable to the masses which I can understand since A Passion Play is not easily absorbed. Back-door Angels is one of my favorite Tull songs.

Now that is a lot of Tull. Not my favorite album with ten songs, surviving that would be hard for me. Wilson's remixes are amazing though so for a die-hard War Child fan, this would be the ultimate collection.

sorry, the big surprise release I was describing about wasn't War Child,it was 'Passion Play' just before. My mistake,War Child came after the press turned on him on Passion Play. I disliked both. These 2 releases marked a major change for Tull following all the earlier great LP's,'This Was,Stand Up,Benefit,Aqualung culminating in Thick as a Brick...all fantastic different albums.

I wonder what Martin Barre thought of those releases.

Take out "Sea Lion" and "Bungle in the Jungle" and WC was a decent album. A Passion Play had bright spots. Too Old to Rock and Roll and too Young to Die was the worst IMO.

I like the War Child album - it was the first concert by Tull that I saw as a youngster.

But this is just too much.

I already bought the deluxe re-mix that came out a few years ago.

I am a huge Tull fan and think they are one of the great underrated bands but War Child is near the bottom of my list of Tull albums!

I owned War Child when it came out and I thought it was a very good record. It's very mellow...........more mellow I'm sure than any Tull fan was expecting at the time. To my ears, that does NOT mean it's not a good record. I think Ian Anderson is kinda like Neil Young in that he does what he wants musically, not what he thinks the public is expecting.

But I'd never buy this package............51 cuts on disc four alone? C'mon, now!! That's for SERIOUS Tull freaks only, and I lost that in the 70's. If they released a remaster of just the original record with a few bonus cuts, I'd buy that. And by the way: Exactly WHAT is on the DVD? Maybe I missed it but I don't see it listed in this post.
