Jazz Legend Wayne Shorter Passes at 89

Jazz legend Wayne Shorter has passed away. Always enjoyed his work particularly with the group Weather Report and his 1980's collaboration with Carlos Santana. He influenced a wide array of players including Derek Trucks who included the Shorter penned "Footprints" on his first commercial release. Derek also has a song "Shorter" a tribute to the late saxophonist. Shorter also played on a number of releases of Miles Davis.

and everyone else, his bio reads like an encyclopedia to jazz. What a life and a career.

Man another giant gone.
Also really dug his work with VSOP.
Love his quote along the lines of “when you play jazz it’s not really supposed to sound like jazz”
had to think about that one for awhile!

One of my top ten guys. Thankfully we have all that music, the best memorial.

That second quintet with Miles is one of the best bands in history, imo. Check out the Bootleg series.
I was lucky enough to see him twice, once with Herbie and once with his own band. Amazing.
RIP
