Not to be a jerk but just curious, are you obligated to tell any patients or people you deal with that you are not vaccinated? I would assume that if you work in the medical field you would have more information about this than the average Joe.

I dont think you are a jerk, it is a valid, good question. I have had two people ask me if I was or not  over the last 9 mons or so and I told them I was not. There was no issue, one just said to me they thought I should and it would be a good idea. They were nice and not attacking me. Funny, my wife and I were talking this morning about patients asking if we were or not and she has had a couple in the last few weeks get pretty fired up about it. They  were surprised that the hospital did not make us all do it.  One of my co workers had an encounter with a patient who pretty much verbally attacked her about not having the vaccine. I guess it almost got to the point were security was going to escort this person off of the premises.

In an update to the above article, IU health is suspending those who are not vaccinated for two weeks . They can come back when they have been partially or fully vaccinated.  The other larger health networks in Indy are falling in line with the  mandate. Along with increasing cases, I am sure where I work at its going to be looked at if not already. We are located just a stones through out of the county line, Marion(Indy). It all kinda bleeds together.

I dont have any direct numbers and probably never will, but I am sure the good part of a hospitals work force have the vaccine.  The area my wife works in , is about 50/50.

I cant state were I work at, but there is a "rumor" that one of the upper brass is not on board with the vaccine......so what that means I dont know. It could just be a rumor , but I got this from a physician friend who is on the board for the hospital with this individual. Probably heard more than what I should have. Yikes!!!

@jszfunk to your question about how the decision to require vaccination has translated to ticket sales, you piqued my curiosity. Checking Leader Bank Pavilion map today, I would estimate eyeballing the map (being generous) that about 75% of capacity of 5200 remains unsold. Looks like about 3900 seats available. Now Mule does not ordinarily sell out that venue. I have been every summer for the last 14 years and I think about half full is the norm. As their crowd skews older, white, and male ( a little to the right maybe?), would not be surprised if this decision isn't adversely impacting ticket sales. No comment whether that is good or bad, just an observation. Could be other factors at play and maybe they'll sell another 1300 this weekend to get closer to their norm. Or maybe my estimate is off too....like I say, just eyeballing it.

ticket sales could also be down because people don't feel comfortable in crowds.

many variables

True. Could be but also a tad odd for an outdoor venue requiring vaccine. Would think that would make people more comfortable.

many variables

Different artists, different regions, different variables like you say.  I saw Chris Stapleton who has been selling out shows, the one I attended, if not a sell out was very close.  It was the most people I have seen at any concert for a long time.

It seems to me that when an artist cancels a show or requests (demands, even) proof of vaccination - they're putting forth a caveat or warning that they are not responsible for the post-concert health of attendees.  This is a safe and prudent thing to do.  Many artists at or about Jason Isbell's professional level still rely on concerts for their income (CD/album sales are dismal - thanks to computers).  These guys have gotta eat and pay bills like everybody else.

There are performers like Ringo Starr (and his Allstars) who have enough money to just cancel the entire tour and not miss a sandwich.

Fans will show up or not.  Many ( I did not say "most") have the good sense to weigh the situation and make decisions on their own.  I love Jason Isbell, but  he'll be looking at four empty spaces -dead center on the 4th row next Saturday.  However, the SEC/NCAA games in my area will most certainly be filled with those who are immune to the Covid virus.  😉

@rusty that's a pretty charitable view (IMHO). Not sure if anybody could successfully sue someone for staging an event at which they caught COVID. The airlines have quietly been running full flights since the beginning of the pandemic. Yes....they make you wear the face diaper but then they serve you pretzels and a Sprite...the more cynical view is that instituting the proof of vaxx is an opportunity to virtue signal and prove your "woke" bonafides....like I'm not one of THOSE people.....reasonable folks can disagree.

I think it's unrealistic for an entire audience to get a COVID test prior to the show. And it's not proof they didn't contract COVID on the way there. But if everyone is vaccinated it's more likely everyone will remain healthy. And I don't think there will ever be a definitive answer on how long you can spread a virus - there are too many variables from person-to-person and environments. Medicine and research can tell us a lot, but not everything is going to be concrete - oncologists give every 6 months, best guess.

This is why I think you are over-thinking this issue. The problem is COVID is making people sick and dead and over-taxing our health care industry. We have a solution: vaccines. They help keep people healthy and help reduce the spread. But the secondary problem is some people are refusing the solution - once the solution became a flu shot, the problem was no longer "just the flu". So we have a solution for them: stay away from crowds so you don't contract or spread COVID.

Simple as that. The Law of Parsimony. Sure, people who are not carrying the virus cannot spread it, but if ever if everyone just got vaccinated, the spread becomes far less of an issue. Isbell is traveling from areas with different regulations but wants to maintain what he believes is a safe environment for his employees through out the tour. Maintaining a safe work environment is within the purview of an employer or facility, like screening for weapons at a ball game or concert. Hopefully the worst thing that will happen to unvaccinated people is they wait a year to see Jason Isbell. Trying to redirect some measure of fault on vaccinated people because unvaccinated people can't go see Jason Isbell seems reverse-engineered, it ignores the basic cause and effect and available solutions.

Hate to say "I told you so" but the 'vax' is like the flu shot and not a true vaccine after all.  Non-medical grade are just virtue signaling.  Accept the fact that Covid is here to stay, and live your lives.

All you are telling us is you don't understand what a vaccine is and does. The flu shot is a vaccine. The flu mutates every year, just as COVID currently is. Vaccines are meant to mitigate your symptoms and build immunity, not immediately eradicate a virus. It took 10 years to perfect polio vaccines and 30 years to eradicate it from the US. If you're vaccinated, live your life - the vaccines are keeping a lot of people out of ICUs. If you're not vaccinated, stay safe so you don't fill up over-capacity ICUs.

This is about as clear, concise, and accurate a statement about the point of getting vaccinated as it gets.  Well said, porkchopbob...

Please get vaccinated. Our ICU is busy with people age 30-60 on vents who are not vaccinated. Some are dying. Some are having strokes (Covid increases blood clotting). Some are requiring trach's. The hospital is full. Elective procedures are getting cancelled because we have no where to put people. Patients who are really sick and require transfer to tertiary care centers have to wait because they are all full with covid patients.

Please get vaccinated

I was talking to a couple of the ER physicians at the hospital that I work at about this whole issue.  Not all  are on the same page and they have different thoughts about it. Interesting takes for sure.....

My opinions and feelings are different than most, and I will just leave it at that. I just believe that its going to be endemic to our society .

I did some reading about poorer countries and the vaccine rates. Links below.

Natural immunity is the best immunity.

I don't take the jabs, wear a mask or social distance.

I do try to keep my immune system functioning at peak.

I do exercise daily.

Just getting over what may be omigod, but what does it matter if it was seasonal flu?

I've now got antibodies from it.

Better to fend off the next "variant" or mutation".

I go to as many indoor shows as possible.

We're all exposed every time we go to a supermarket because a virus doesn't know the difference between an indoor show or a Walmart.

Here in the UK all venues seem to be asking for vax ID. I've been to 5 gigs since lockdown was lifted here, the last, Robert Plant with Saving Grace, you had to show proof of being fully vaxed and also wear a mask. Although a bit restrictive at first you soon get use to the mask in a warm/hot venue.

Both my good lady wife and I are double vaxed and boostered, but at the moment we are coming to the end of a 10 day self isolation period as we contracted covid within a couple of days of each other. Its not completely fool proof but we could be a lot worse if we were unvaxed.

You are assuming that the person that is not vaccinated and becomes infected survives the COVID infection and there is also the risk that that person that was infected survives but has long term complications  and ailments from the virus.

As has been previously stated the vaccine does not prevent someone getting infected but data shows it helps to minimize the symptoms and possible health effects of the virus.

The majority of those requiring to be hospitalized are individuals that are not vaccinated. This is putting tremendous burden on the health system and impacting those who need surgical procedures and medical care for non COVID related health issues.

Also natural immunity does not guarantee you will be resistant to new variants of the virus any more than vaccination does. Studies are showing that natural immunity from the Delta variant does not mean you will not get sick from Omicron.

You seemed to have been lucky in that you did not get sick enough to require hospital care but unfortunately that is not the case for all those unvaccinated.
