To be honest you have to be pretty selfish not to be vaccinated.
How was smallpox eradicated ? Vaccination.
Vaccination not only protects you but protects the people around you.
I am happy to se venues with no vaccine no entry policies at least you can be safe from COVID at those venues and let's face it most of our favourite artists are now in those vulnerable groups with fans of similar ages.

Agree with everything you said except unfortunately a vaccinated person can spread COVID so while the risk is lower, having all concert attendees vaccinated, you can still contract COVID from a fellow vaxer.
This is one of the arguments the anti vaxers, and people who feel being required to wear masks is a an infringement on their freedoms, are using to support their POV.

I have just returned from taken my dear old aunt in for a pre-op MRI. While she was back there getting MRIed, the most absolute rudest and stoopidest person you'd ever want to meet in a pandemic walked up to the counter.
First - she was unmasked. In a HOSPITAL which currently has no ICU or ER beds. A hospital who had FOUR Covid deaths yesterday. She was carrying with her a ceramic coffee mug, an umbrella and a lot of change (coins) that she just dumped out of her purse and onto the counter.
When the personnel behind the desk (plexi glass - and wearing a mask) politely told her that she would need to put on a mask, the woman went semi-ape shit. She cursed out loud, pounded her fist on the counter and demanded to know why she should have to wear a mask. She announced that "EVERYONE is just absolutely crazy over this!" To ice the cake - she literally threw her insurance card and identification at the young woman behind the counter.
I sat there trying to assure myself that nobody really deserves Covid. I'm still working on this.

@rusty In hard times, the cream rises to the top. The rest show us who they really are. Hope all is ok. I've had several family members with medical issues have logistical complications due to hospital over flow from COVID. There's a snowball effect that some people refuse to take into account.

A couple of things:
How the hell did she even get IN the hospital? All of them here have police or at the minimum, security. No mask, no entry.
And on a lighter level, what was the deal with loose change?

Here's one for y'all. I found out two of my friends have fake vax cards. I have no idea where they got them, I didn't ask. But one of the friends actually did get her shots because her boss made her and she got a legit card. So I asked her if she had both of them on her and she did. She showed them to me. It is really hard to tell the difference, especially if you just use a copy or a photo on your phone, which is acceptable. If you are holding the two originals, you can tell they are different.
I'm rather pissed at them because I've been in contact with them and they obviously haven't cared.

@lee I don't know how the lady got into the building without a mask. When we arrived there were two people at the front door asking questions and shooting your head with those pistol thermometers. I guess maybe they got a little lax or went on break (lunch)? I don't know how the loose change came to play - maybe she just decided the best way to find her cards in her Samsonite handbag was just to dump it out onto the counter. Maybe she was on drugs ... or off medication? Regardless - she was an ill-mannered dingbat. I commiserated with the lady at the counter. I told her that I would've called hospital security. She was obviously a well-tempered professional - intent on helping the lady get her tests. No hospital worker should suffer this kind of abuse!
EDIT: Maybe the offending lady was masked when she entered the building? I'm going with this guess.

Evidently fake cards are now coming from China. I read a news report that a batch was recently confiscated by customs(?).
You had to figure it was only a matter of time until that happened.

Posted by: @sangFunny that people are paying money for a card they could get for free with the vaccine ....
I saw a thing on the news and this guy said the same thing. And what if you get penalized for doing something you shouldn't?

No need to buy Chinese counterfeits. Just go to your local pharmacy

Las Vegas Raiders to require proof of COVID-19 vaccination for Raiders games at Allegiant Stadium
LAS VEGAS, NV) – The Las Vegas Raiders will require all attendees at home games to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination through CLEAR's free mobile app and Health Pass feature, allowing fans to attend games without wearing a mask. The policy will take effect for the first regular season home game, September 13 against the Baltimore Ravens on Monday Night Football. The Raiders are the first team in the National Football League to announce a vaccine/no mask policy.
The Raiders implemented the change in accord with a new Emergency Directive from Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak regarding large events. "Health and safety has always been our number one priority," said Raiders owner Mark Davis. "After consultation with Governor Sisolak and other community leaders, this policy ensures that we will be able to operate at full capacity without masks for fully vaccinated fans for the entire season," Davis explained.
The Raiders will offer the opportunity for fans to receive vaccinations on site at Allegiant Stadium prior to Raiders home games, permitting newly vaccinated fans to enter wearing a mask.
The Raiders announced a policy requiring all full-time employees on the business and football staffs of the organization to be vaccinated in May. Stadium management company ASM and stadium concessionaire Levy also have implemented mandatory vaccinations for all full-time staff at Allegiant Stadium.
The Raiders will hold a press conference at 12:00 noon on August 17th at Allegiant Stadium to announce details of the program and introduce CLEAR representatives who will discuss the verification process. Raiders season ticketholders will receive an email with additional information and instructions.
Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

@lee Winter is coming, no more outdoor dining or concerts upnortder. Agree, most of us expected this. That's why it was so important to get as much immunity by the end of the summer.

33 year old woman fully vaccinated just recently died of Covid. That has a less than 1 percent chance of happening but it did. We have a couple in the hospital here with Covid who didn't get vaccinated because they got rather sick with Covid last year and assumed they had a natural resistance.
My point is we don't know what is going to happen so I'm wearing a mask almost every where except when I eat but I better change that.
I'm 74 and vaccinated. Pfizer January 21st and February 14th and plan to get a booster 3rd shot in September.
We have Covid, 2,000 dead in Haiti from an earthquake and who knows how many Afghans will get shot by the Taliban after America pulls out completely at the end of the month. Apparently America isn't going to get ALL those out who are considered traitors by the Taliban which is a shame. Leon Panetta said Sunday on CNN this is going to be Biden's "Bay of Pigs".
Please get everyone out who needs and wants to go. Come on Joe! Call American, Delta and United and ask the CEOs to put everything they have on the runway in Kabul, Afghanistan. The rest of us can fly later. The Taliban wants women 12 and over to LIVE LIKE ITS THE DARN 13th CENTURY!!! How can that be in 2021???????????
This old world is in such turmoil that we will need lots of good concerts masks or no and lots of love and understanding.
Wish I could go back to 1968 when I went to San Francisco for 4 weeks!!

Here is a lullaby to all those who may be left behind in Afghanistan. This is from 1968. I saw this lady with a group called The Seekers in Manhattan in 1969 and she sings like I would imagine an ANGEL 😇 would sing!!
Put your mask on if you get in a crowd.

@robertdee I think we should keep Afghanistan out of this thread and stay on topic. There's enough to unpack here, and there's an Afghanistan thread in the Whipping Post.

@porkchopbob Yeah you are right. I got a bit off the road. I began to see the Haitian earthquake, the people in Afghanistan who want out and the surging Covid 19 Delta variant and our need to keep the masks on vaccinated or no rolled up in one be exhausting challenge to us all.

LIVE NATION Canada To Require Proof Of Vaccination, Negative Rapid Tests At Concerts
Committed to bringing concerts back in the best ways, today Live Nation Canada announced that it will be rolling out protocols requiring all artists and fans to either show proof of COVID vaccination or a negative COVID test to enter shows at Live Nation Canada's fully owned and operated venues, where permitted by law. Live Nation Canada said it will have the policy in full effect nationwide no later than October 4, 2021, though many shows will likely implement these protocols sooner as they look to make the switch as soon as possible. Additionally, beyond October 4, all Live Nation Canada employees will need to be fully vaccinated in order to work at or visit venues or offices.
As the global leader in live entertainment, Live Nation has been doing shows around the world throughout the summer. Vaccination and testing have proven to support the safe return of concerts at full capacity, and Live Nation Canada is advocating that the industry at large adopt similar health check requirements at this time. Live Nation has already implemented this model at events and festivals across the U.S. and U.K., including Lollapalooza, Latitude, Camp Bestival and Wilderness. Data has continued to show the approach successfully allows everyone to enjoy live music, while also inspiring more people to get vaccinated. For example, at Lollapalooza 90% of the festival's 400,000 attendees showed up fully vaccinated, with 12% of those fans reporting that Lollapalooza was their motivation for getting vaccinated.
"Live Nation and the live music industry are about uniting people, and vaccines are one of the greatest tools for making sure that everyone can continue to enjoy live music together," said Wayne Zronik, president business operations, Live Nation Canada. "We're confident this is the right move for everyone coming out to shows, including artists, fans, crew, and our staff."
While studies have shown outdoor environments are inherently low risk, Live Nation will still be rolling out the protocols at outdoor venues and festivals out of extra precaution. Live Nation Canada's owned and operated venues include Budweiser Stage (Toronto), History (Toronto), The Danforth Music Hall (Toronto), Commodore Ballroom (Vancouver), Midway (Edmonton), and The Velvet Underground (Toronto). Live Nation is also sharing best practices for artists to request these policies at third-party venues where Live Nation promotes shows but does not control protocols.
As each event approaches, ticket purchasers will receive updates via e-mail with the important information needed to plan their visit to Live Nation Canada's events.
Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

The four venues I usually go to in Asheville, NC, and Greenville, SC, have all sent me emails in the past two weeks saying they will require proof of vaccination or negative test, and wearing of masks at all events. They are not relying on the artists to make that decision. I really have no problem with it. It is their house and they get to make the rules. It's a better option than shutting down completely.
I went to a couple of shows back in the Spring where mask-wearing was required. It really wasn't that bad. I just made sure I had a very comfortable mask to wear.
Now I have tickets for 3 shows in October. I bought them a few months ago when it looked like we had turned the corner. Now I kind of regret it, and am considering just skipping the shows, not because of the mask requirements but because it just seems like a bad idea to go. I'm selfishly hoping the shows get canceled and refunds are issued.

Not accurate.
Here is a recent medical report from Israel. It takes 15 seconds to read the results on page 2-3 https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2021.08.24.21262415v1.full.pdf
BTW "breakthrough" is code for "vax don't work".

This is concerning too. Better vax and mask up your furry friends... https://www.cleveland.com/news/2021/08/white-tailed-deer-in-ohio-first-in-the-world-to-test-positive-for-covid.html

@buckeye Nope, we covered this already. "Breakthrough" doesn't mean the vax doesn't work. You can still contract COVID if you're vaxxed, and the vaccine will mitigate the symptoms (the means keep you from dying of COVID).
I'll post this for you again.

In other words, the delta variant means the virus will probably continue to spread, even among vaccinated people and even in a strongly vaccinated country such as Israel, because the vaccines don’t protect from transmission or symptomatic cases nearly as well. But that doesn’t mean the vaccines don’t work, especially when it comes to preventing the worst of the disease.
Also...
among Israel's serious infections on Thursday of this week, according to Health Ministry data, the rate of serious cases among unvaccinated people over age 60 (178.7 per 100,000) was nine times more than the rate among fully vaccinated people of the same age category, and the rate of serious cases among unvaccinated people in the under-60 crowd (3.2 per 100,000) was a little more than double the rate among vaccinated people in that age bracket.
even though Israel began vaccines early, not enough people got them.
"We have a very large fraction of our population who are paying the price for a small fraction of the population who did not go to get the vaccine," said Eran Segal of the Weizmann Institute of Science, who advises the Israeli government on COVID-19.
Unvaccinated people helped fuel the rapid spread of the virus while the country remained open for business in recent months with few serious restrictions.
"That will lead to mass infection, which is exactly what we are seeing now," said Segal.
The vaccine works how it was designed. It's not a magic bullet. So stop with your nonsense. Get a vaccine or stay home.

Vaccine does work. I am happy to have it and am happy my entire immediate family is vaccinated and most of my friends are as well.
But here is one for you (or anyone). You say get vaccinated or stay home. What about get vaccinated, and still stay home?
KISS canceled some shows this week because Paul Stanley tested positive. The band and entire touring crew is vaccinated. Why even test them? And why cancel? Because they are protecting unvaccinated concert goers? I don't really care that much about unvaccinated concert goers, let them yield the outcomes of the decisions they make. There is an extremely little chance of any danger to the band, the touring crew and the vaccinated concert goers. So why cancel?

@nebish vaccinated people still don’t (uh shouldn’t) want to spread COVID, to anyone regardless of vax. The goal is to stop the spread, the vaccine helps you to not die from COVID. Remember, those guys and their crew are all on a fleet of buses together, close quarters. Same happens in baseball club houses, you still don’t want to catch even a mild case of COVID, if you can help it, and quarantining helps stop that thread of COVID from being passed on.

I established on page 1 I am not going to sit for 2-3 hours with a mask on and "enjoy" a show. I am staying home.
Okay bob. Believe your NPR and disregard the increasing cases and what will happen this winter. Make excuses and blame anti-vaxers or whomever else. In case you missed the second story, don't forget to mask your pets and vax then too as this is a cold virus and will be with us forever.
BTW wonder where this came from to begin with and who benefitted the most. hhmmm

@Porkchopbob So let's say that KISS had a Jason Isbell policy. Proof of vaccination for entry. The crew and band all vaccinated. The venue requires all their employees and all the contractors require all their workers to be vaccinated. And one member of the band tests positive, they cancel? That is BS. Total BS.

What does vaccination status even mean then?
Restaurants who want only vaccinated people? What does that mean, if they aren't testing everyone then they aren't doing anything. If a vaccinated covid positive person walks into that restaurant then their vaccination requirement accomplishes nothing.
Jason Isbell requires vaccination for his shows, if a vaccinated covid positive person walks into that concert exactly what did Jason Isbell's policy do if that person can spread the virus to others?
Because covid positive vaccinated people are going to cancel concerts, I'm just like WTF are we doing here?
