Jack Pearson! The best guitarist out there?
I found interviews with two of the hottest guitar players out of Nashville and elsewhere, Billy Strings and Tommy Emmanuel, and surprisingly BOTH bragged on Jack Pearson as the best all around guitar player out there today.
Electric, acoustic, lead or slide Jack is as good as it gets!!
Surprising to hear that from Billy and Tommy.
Ya wouldn't have to twist my arm too far to get me to agree. I've been beaten up around here for saying it in the past, but I think Jack just might be the best player the Allman Brother's Band ever had. Like you said about Tommy - there might be a better payer but there ain't one who's a LOT better. (I paraphrased ya there)
I always point out that the Jack Pearson Trio in the clip you posted is basically bass-less. That organ player knows how to work those pedals!
@rusty Yes the organ player knows how to play the bass parts with his foot. That is how the Doors played. You hear the bass but can't spot the bass player then you find out they don't have a bass player.
There is a big number of fantastic musicians who live in Nashville today and in the past too.
When I was young I often read the late Grady Martin was the first choice for most producers for secessions in Nashville.
I always thought this session was especially great acoustic playing for Grady Martin.
@rusty More from Billy Strings about Jack Pearson.

That comment just moved Billy Strings up a few notches in my book
@rusty Yes Texas rumbled about leaving when Obama was elected and California when Trump was the first time.
David Allen Coe has a Confederate flag Dean electric guitar!!
Thanks for noticing that error. My spell check seems to create more mistakes than it corrects. I try to proof read before I click but don't notice some of them when it changes a word to something else. A couple years ago I tried to cut it off but couldn't figure out how.
I'm just glad to hear that Jack is out there performing live once again. I know he did not for quite some time.
How about a little Jack and Tommy together?
I was lucky to catch Jack with Les Brers Sept 2016 in NH playing with Butch, Otiel, Mark, Jaimoe.
There was about 300 people and man what a fantastic show. I felt bad for the band as they were
great musicians from the best band playing for chump change. They played just about 3 hours and then broke into
the whipping post. I may have caught Jack years earlier. I 'd have to check the ticket stubs.

Les Brers was a great band of great musicians. I caught them at the Fillmore in Philadelphia and the Chameleon Club in Lancaster, PA the next night back in October 2016. Great shows. But yes, at the Chameleon I was able to get Butch and Jaimoe to sign the back cover of my vinyl copy of the first ABB album and when I met Butch you could tell he was sort of irritated to be playing a small club like the Chameleon Club (although that's also where I saw Gov't Mule for the first time in Aug 1995).
I saw Jack with the Allman Brothers Band proper a number of times between 1997 and his last run with the band at the Beacon in the spring of 1999
It is so nice to see a little Jack appreciation on this site. Nice to see him get some acknowledgement of his diverse playing styles too, especially his jazz improvisation skills. But his real love is swing, bebop and western swing music.
He used to sit in with the Time Jumpers (google up) and John England and his Western Swingers, both of whom would lite up when Jack came in. Once, after he sat in with the Time Jumpers, band leader Kenny Sears asked the band ""What do we want to do now?". Vince Gill leaned into his mic and said, "Go home and practice!"
Charlie Daniels said, "I believe that boy could resolve a D chord right off the end of the Earth."
Larry Carlton has a nickname for jack: "F@cker". As in "That f@cker is going to play circles around you and me." Said to Robben Ford before the three of them shared a stage.
I once was ridiculed on this site for stating that Jack was a jazz master. Told that I was an idiot, and thaat was the nicer thing said. Yet, for years I have watched the older jazz players would gather around like moths to a porch light. When he was a guest instructor at the Handy Festival in Muscle Shoals, the other instructors and guest artist would line up like they were at an audition.
He also spent some time playing on the Grand Ole Opry with Banjo great Mike Snider and his traditional string band. Jack played mandolin and the band, the audience, and the house crew loved him and his jazzy approach to string band tunes. Mike fired him for too much improvisation, but the band said it was because he was getting more applause. The house crew loved him for showing up and serenading them while they set up the stage for the evenings performance.
Having been his friend (and cartage guy) for 50 years, I can confidently say there is not a style he can't play, and most all of them at the master level.
Thanks y'all!
Here is an interview with Jack about jazz and the Allman Brothers Band.
I didn't realize what an influence At Fillmore East was to Jack and how he studied Duane and Dickey years ago. And Jack mentions that SWING the original band had and that he is still tight with Jaimoe.
