I've Advanced From THC to 'Shrooms

Had you going, didn't I? Seriously, I had a nice little crop of the green stuff these last two years. And then, after our recent very heavy rain, these cropped up in the backyard. I know NOTHING about mushrooms. Just curious.............yeah, I know these aren't gonna get me high, but I'm also too scared to eat them. Anyone here know what varietal these are? Edible?

i dont know what they are but would not advise eating them. i know a lot people who are into eating wild plants and foraging, generally avoid mushrooms. its too easy to make a mistake.

Those would cause kidney failure within a few hours....schrooms....tried them.....taste like dirt.....didn't have fun either time I tried them....live and learn

Generally speaking, playing with wild snakes is probably safer than dealing with mushrooms. In either case, you either need to know - or be with someone who does know the safe ones from the dangerous ones.
I recommend a book like the Audubon guide to Mushrooms (link below) or something similar.
Some folks seek out mushrooms, morels and other fungi as food. Some seek mushrooms for recreational purposes.
Books like the Audubon guide often label certain mushrooms as "poisonous". I've often wondered if "poisonous" means DEADLY or if that label also includes the ones that will make you trip. It's a good idea to become educated in either case.

They taste like chicken... 😛

You mean to tell me, Ron, that you actually went back for seconds? Looking for that elusive high, maybe?

as mentioned,be careful.Mushrooms can be fun,yet can cause kidney failure, liver failure,if they are poisonus variety.I know the type that are fun are usually found growing on cow poop, lol

I have a yearly crop of edible mushrooms in my front yard, my parents love them.
They are all white, some of the larger ones are 6 inches across.
I don't eat them and I sure wouldn't eat those in the picture.

If they don't come out of cow chit, or a can...I wouldn't touch 'em! 😉

Your post was funny Rob.
At least you're not eating them since you have no idea what type they are and people have died or severly messed up their liver or kidneys from eating wild picked mushrooms.
A friend of mine that's a botanist would eat wild picked mushrooms but they were not the psychedelic types, and he would pick morels, and the chicken of the woods mushroom. I never ate any of the ones he picked since he's Vegetarian and would eat them for multiple meals; but he did show them to me. The hen of the woods/chicken of the woods one was giant and I thought it was lichen at first.
Another friend of mine apparently did get some minor liver damage from when his wife picked some wild mushrooms and they ate them; but he didn't know this until years later when he had a liver test done and it came back abnormally.
If you'd like I can email my botanist friend your picture and ask if he knows what type they are? Have a wonderful Christmas and a happy new year.

Some of the most spiritual moments I have ever had have been on 'shrooms.

i "planted" some different varieties of mushrooms a couple of years ago. i bought plugs online and then drilled holes in logs and have waited. i have had some huge crops of oyster mushrooms, 9 lbs once, but i haven't seen any of the other varieties. its hit or miss growing them.

Please do, inquiring minds want to know!

Or the box in the super market...

Do not eat any wild mushrooms without knowing for 100% sure what you are doing!!! There are many look alike varieties that grow wild. Some are ok, some are extremely dangerous. A picture of the top of the cap doesn't tell you much. The underside of the cap, The texture, and other clues are needed before you ingest wild mushrooms. I know this is a mostly satirical post, but this is a worning to the youngsters out there. Be careful!!!

Look at what's happened now in only the two days since I posted this. Note the powdery film on top. We're still getting light rain every day. Especially with that powder on top, I would NEVER be fool enough to ingest these. Anyone know what the powder is?

Anyone know what the powder is?
Pixie dust?

Spores.....They open up and drop the spores that will breed the next batch

OK I emailed my botanist friend. He said he wasn't sure what type of mushrooms they are. But he's more an expert on maize and corn.

Hone your skills with the herb, Robslob, and avoid the shrooms entirely. Not only will your organs be happier, but so will your attorney if you're ever caught cultivating mushrooms as compared to the herb (depending upon your state of residence of course). If you can master to herb thing, it can be nearly as enjoyable as shrooms anyway. And much less toxic. Trust me, I know of what I preach.

You're preachin' to the choir, man. And FYI I live in California where it's legal with a Doctor's recommendation to have up to six mature plants. This year I had five, four last year. Never was serious about the 'shrooms.

I have always enjoyed what I have learned about myself while trippin'. I've never done them just to "party". I have never had a bad experience but that's because I have always done them in the right setting and while in a good mental state.. It's really something that if experienced properly can cleanse ones soul.

I know you weren't serious about the 'shrooms. What strain or strains did you grow this year?
Unfortunately for me I live in New York state and our esteemed Governor, Andrew Cuomo, neutered what could have been a reasonable medical marijuana bill into an overly restricted and very limited access system. Typical of New York, it won't fully even roll out for nearly another 18 months and a very select few will be eligible to use it and an even more select few will be allowed to cultivate and sell it to physician certified patients.

Toadstools. Can't recommend 'em.

I know you weren't serious about the 'shrooms. What strain or strains did you grow this year?
I had two Indica plants, two Sativa, and another which is a 50/50 blend. All of them are turning out to be fairly lethal. I started XMAS morning with a little 50/50, that one is called White Widow. It got me looped almost IMMEDIATELY........great way to start XMAS day if you know my way of thinking. Of course the names of the strains are meaningless, it's just what someone who grew it arbitrarily decided to name the strain, or what someone before them named the breed they obtained the seeds from.
I've only been growing for two years, before that it was almost 30 years since I'd grown. The way I've done all my plants the last two years is to go to a dispensary which sells "grafts" or starter plants which are around six inches tall. In California with a medical card, you can have 12 starter plants or six mature plants. Out of the nine starter plants I've purchased in the last two years, every single one has gone to maturity. The starters only cost around $14 each, which means you can have a crop of six plants for under $100.
I've got so much weed in my freezer that I honestly don't know what to do with it all. And it's nice being able to sit there when you want to have a smoke and be able to choose what you want that day............hmmm.........what's it gonna be...........Indica.........Sativa.........blend? And obviously my weed costs me next to nothing.
I'm told with my card I could sell to dispensaries but I haven't looked into that. I know the weed business around here is extremely competitive and most dispensaries grow their own. I would NOT sell it to anyone unless it was above board and legal. If it's not above board, it's still a felony here in California. I'm not stupid enough to risk going to jail and also never working in the medical field again.

Hmm.....So the grafts are feminized clones I would assume? For $14 bucks? Nice, very nice.
As I said in my previous post, the medical marijuana bill here in New York initially included certified patients being allowed to cultivate 6 adult plants. In the end, Cuomo stripped that from the bill and also reduced the number of medical conditions physicians could use to justify certification.
As you know, six plants, when grown with minimal effort and dried and cured properly can amount to a significant amount of product. Allowing cultivation would have made what is now going to be a VERY restricted system much easier on patients. But in New York, we always make things about overly burdensome bureaucracy and special interests...

Rob, I wish you were licensed to ship to Georgia! I'm dyin' down here! 😉

So the grafts are feminized clones I would assume?
That would be correct. Any starter plant purchased at a dispensary is a female plant.
Chain: I assume you're not voting for Cuomo next time around?

Looks like you've used your card most efficiently :).....Some times it's better to just lay low and enjoy what you produce for yourself...no need to get involved with all that would go into dispensing at any level...
