I know what I am about to say has been hashed out before but I played Hittin the Note this weekend for the first time in a while and literally got angry. What a great album and performance(s). To have that much talent (2 top 10 guitarists, top 5 bassist, and the ‘best’ white blues singer (IMO) in a group and only get one studio album in more than a decade is a damn shame.

There’s a nice thread about the Last Waltz and I keep reading how epic the final show is and no one had the sense to set up a couple cameras!? It didn’t need to be a full film crew with Martin Scorsese, just let a camera catch the action and give us an audience view. Now no DVD will ever be available for this show, and people still can’t figure out how to get the Filmore East shows put together after 40 years. Again, it is a damn shame.

This band recovered from some very real tragedies and I am thankful for the music. At the same time a big ‘thumbs down” to whoever has contributed to the mismanagement and poor decisions that kept us fans from accessing and enjoying some of the art this band provided or could have....

Are you talking about the Last Waltz, or the ABB's last show not being filmed?
Since both were...I'm kinda' confused...

I agree Fanfrom71 it is kinda obtuse; however, ... I believe this is the crutch of the matter ...

I believe that Bucky is lamenting the lack of studio output by the band and placing the blame on management. Unfortunately the blame should rest with the band themselves. Gregg in particular IMO. It seems that he still commands respect despite having shot himself in the foot several times (no pun intended.) His solo years are a case in point. Had he been in condition to capitalize on the many opportunities presented to him, he could have enjoyed the success and popularity of several of the best from the 80's and 90's. Any way we'll see ... the supposed "all songs by Gregg" is supposed to be forthcoming ... Perhaps it could have been Butch's reluctance to spend money that would take away from the (dwindling?) tour receipts ... In spite of all that has gone down, I really see a reunion down the road (including Dickey) when the payoff becomes too much for the band to ignore. 😉

Are we sure that the final ABB show was filmed? I've seen nothing actually confirming that.

Screw the final show. Release the one with Clapton. That would be the one that would sell. Smile

Sorry if I was not clear.

Everything I heard reported here was that the final show was not captured. With today’s technology, it just seemed silly to not document this for release as was the The Last Waltz.

Thanks for the assist. Whover was to blame, I just think of what could have been with such a talented group.

Yep, I agree 100% about them not following up HTN. Sort of like Pink Floyd not following up after TDB (not counting Endless River). You're like 'the band has a new start!! Think of all the great new music!!'

Makes me mad too..... I can't understand why the wouldn't have put out more new music!

I imagine that's why Derek and Warren decided to move on... wonder what the convo was like with Gregg.

"The final 6 shows were fan recorded using a 3 camera setup - left, center, right - mounted on the balcony ledge. Still being worked on as it takes a lot of work and time to complete. I'm sure when ready they will be enjoyed by anyone who wants them. Patience."

I haven't heard anything official and that doesn't sound like a professionally recorded show. A three stationary camera set up doesn't seem like a DVD release.

According to McCabe, it should be @ least this good. Which is damn good imo!

Based on their checkered history, I am not surprised in the least that there was not another studio effort. Even if the final Beacon shows were filmed, I would say we have until 2020 before seeing such a release. I remember reading an interview with Kirk West in Relix from around 1996 where he mentioned that there several archival releases ready to go. I believe some of the projects he mentioned were eventually released but it was a decade or so after the interview.

That's great footage, and I don't like the DVD's that do 30 camera shot changes per minute. However you really need more than 3 unmanned stationary camera's to have a professional DVD release.

It would be ok with those three if that is all that you can get, but not what most people are wanting.

The post about a three camera video was a FAN recorded video, not Pro-shot. This big thing with this is it won't be years until it's released, and unless it's something like the NYC Bitch Committee, it will be distributed freely, for free.

Completely agree. makes me sad and angry as well that they didn't release at least 1 or 2 studio albums after HTN. First one in like 2006-2007 and subsequent releases every 3 or four years. I think the ABB (read Gregg and Butch) made a misjudgement regarding their studio output. Of course i would perfectly understand that Gregg's health situation would have caused studio recordings to be posponed or cancelled but i think the real intention to record was never there in the first place. I think they really focused on their reputation of being a fantastic live act but being a more profelic studio act / artist would have given them an even better reputation / status. Okay, almost every studio album recorded in this new millenium wasn't very profitable but still a whole bunch of other artists kept recording them. And a band like the ABB don't need to spend 6 or 8 months in an expensive recording studio. Road test the newly written songs and selected covers and record them live in the studio with minimal overdubs. Could have been done in Derek's home studio.

Also not professionally filming and recording their last show was a bad business decision as well. It should have been properly filmed (NOT with the subpar quality of their 40th anniversary show which looks like a webcam quality show / Moogis production) and released within months of the actual show.

It is such a shame we did not get one more studio album with derek on it. Gregg is not a prolific songwriter anymore,he wrote some great songs in his younger days.. This fascination he has of writing an all original album is never going to happen either. Buckeye I could just suggest following derek and warren with their future projects.

My guess is that the "All Compositions by ...." album wasn't going to be all new material, but him doing updated versions of songs he had already written. He never once said it was new material.
