Looks like Warren and the Mule will be part of this.

Howard Stern’s Tribute to The Beatles’ ‘Revolver’

14 Music Acts Perform All 14 Tracks To Celebrate the Album’s 50th Anniversary

Fifty years ago, the Beatles released their groundbreaking album “Revolver.” To mark the anniversary, the Howard Stern Show is recreating all 14 tracks from the album with a diverse group of world-class musicians in an exclusive special only heard on Howard 101.

Check out all of the artists involved as well as the songs they’re remaking and tune in to Howard 101 on Friday, Oct. 7 as the Stern Show celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Beatles’ “Revolver.”

AND YOUR BIRD CAN SING” – GOV’T MULE

While it made it on the original U.K. release of “Revolver,” John Lennon said that he didn’t like “And Your Bird Can Sing,” calling it a “throwaway” song – it was left off of the initial U.S. edition.

Gov’t Mule is led by Warren Haynes, the longtime member of the Allman Brothers Band. Here’s what Gov’t Mule has to say about covering “And Your Bird Can Sing”:

“We’re all obviously big Beatles fans. ‘Revolver’ in particular was among their many milestones in the way that it represents their changing from a pop band to a rock band. Subject matters were changing with their songwriting and they were on the forefront of what was changing with, not only music, but pop culture.”

“Gov’t Mule has performed songs like ‘She Said She Said’ and ‘Tomorrow Never Knows’ in our live shows but had never offered up a take of ‘And Your Bird Can Sing’ until this recording. We wanted to put our own slant on it and it came together rather quickly and turned out great. We’ve since added it to our live repertoire and really enjoy playing it.”

I was pleasantly surprised during the part of the show yesterday where this came up. Howard mentioned Mule as one of the guest artists and Robin interrupted and was like, "Govt. Mule is on there?" Howard was like, "how do you know about them?" and she went on to say how her good friend is a big fan.

Howard mentioned how "Warren Hayes" ( he left out the N ) was in the Allman Brothers, etc. and then played a ~10 sec. clip from he song.

Good air time for the Mule!

I'm a big Mulehead but that version of And Your Bird Can Sing just didn't do it for me. That's a VERY dynamic song; if you play the Beatles' version loud on your stereo, it just SCREAMS at you, it bursts out of the stereo and grabs you. The Mule's version mostly dragged a bit, at least for me. Hey, they are one of my VERY favorite bands, and with ABB retired, they may just be THE favorite of mine for a live show. I've heard them just nail some cover tunes at times, I mean really blow me away. Not on that one, though.

Well the Mule does tend to put their own twist on covers especially the Beatles ones. "She Said, She Said" definitely comes to mind and I love that one. Wilco's version is so true to the original it leaves the discerning listener wondering why IMO. When the Mule did "And Your Bird Can Sing" at Charlotte it was jam style. And while the version itself I personally could take or leave, the sound was so good and the band radiated sincerity. When these tribute things are done, I generally gravitate to the ones that aren't carbon copies. 😉

I love the Mule' s heavy She Said She Said for giving that sucker a stomp it never had.

I love Wilco' s And Your Bird Can Sing for giving those amazing guitar harmonies the live performance they never had.

The funny thing to me about the Wilco one is that they played it twice in a row, which is awesome. Tweedy correctly said, Hey let's try it again and do it better. It's only 2 1/2 minutes and its so much fun and we worked so hard on it.

It is indeed a mini masterpiece.

Great point pops. "And Your Bird Can Sing" is kinda like the Beatles do ABB. Of course John, in his own words, called it a "throwaway."

Another excellent point Pops. No doubt Duane and Gregg were influenced by the Beatles. I believe in his book Gregg said something to the fact that half the Allman Joys set was Beatles and the other half Beach Boys. I know Dickey loved the British Invasion from his comments in response to Butch's claim of Duane dissing Jimmy Page. I believe he said, "We all loved Jimmy Page and all that British stuff. Listening to "And Your Bird Can Sing" it seems like a no brainer; however, evidently because John thought AYBCS as a throwaway, it was left off the American release of Revolver. Cool
