Folks...here is my new interview (part one) with the 20-year old guitar gunslinger and Warren Haynes protege Marcus King. The Marcus Kig Band tore it up at last December's Christmas Pre-jam and he is set to play here in my part of the world in Asheville-Black Mtn three more times this summer and is now beginning to tour the country. He is recording his second album now in Connecticut where the Mule cut Shout and when that breaks, he will break in a big way I predict.

And...Marcus has his head screwed on straight...as you will read.

Part two will come later and that one will get into his jazz studies, influences of Duane and Dickey and Toy Caldwell and more. This one, however, is tribute to the coolness that is Warren Haynes as well as Marcus' grandpa.

Thank you for posting this and interviewing Marcus- I'm hoping he'll make it to the the West Coast someday. He's a great guitarist and can really sing and lead a band. The Portland Waterfront Blues Festival would be the perfect gig for him.

Thanks Derek. I'm looking forward to part II. I found the album on Rhapsody and am listening to it now. The kid has chops. I can't wait to see him.

Warren is indeed a Southern Gentleman.

Thanks again for posting!

The first album was recorded and released in 2014...and warren took it and released it on his Evil Teen label...so this new album is two years after and should be even more off the hook.......

He has a nice touch, sings good, and sounds so much like Warren I will wait him out and see if any more originality comes through.

Too much copycat, not enough of his own vibe. Unless we find out he is really Warren's son from those 1990s tours. heh heh.

I saw him with his band at the Orange Peel in December as part of the Christmas Jam and thought he played way too long. After each song I was hoping his set was over. Not a bad player but nothing stood out. Drivin' and Cryin' only got four songs and this guy got close to an hour.

If you hit up the Marcus King Band official FB page, and look at his posted videos - from about 3 weeks ago there are two clips of him playing in my living room - a Marcus Kind Band "Front Porch Session" that was indoors due to rain & darkness.

About all I'll add here is he is, without doubt and at a minimum, someone to keep an eye on going forward.
