37 years ago the Henry Paul Band played a small club near Youngstown Ohio called Eddie & Jo Jo's. Eddie Pannutti, one of the owners went on to become a good friend, and though he got out of the club business, he continues to promote shows on the Outlaws to this day. He wanted to go back to his old club and do a show for old times sake and we agreed. April 1st and 2nd Friday and Saturday night of next week myself along with the Outlaws will be back in the same club (now called Nite Trax) to recreate the magic and memories of that show so long ago. I told Eddie i wanted to open the show with songs and stories and share many of my favorite memories surrounding the early days of the Outlaws, the Henry Paul Band and BlackHawk. Of course the Outlaws will come on after that and rock that little room with a full show. It should be a memorable two nights and i encourage Outlaw fans everywhere to come and be a part of this special presentation. I promise there will be many surprises!!!!!

The plus side is the small crowd/ticket sales, small club, evidently the benefit to the small club owner - for die hard fans only I suspect.

What a sweet deal for 'ol Henry. The Notlaws come out and do BlackHawk songs, then the same band comes back out and does covers of songs by the Outlaws !
I wonder if 'ol Henry is charging different rates for the "different" bands?
Never really cared for them..Like Green Grass, But that's about it.
Dan I'd venture you haven't heard anything, but GGAHT. There first three albums are classic, classic Southern Rock with Hurry Sundown being the gem IMHO.
X2 -- their early albums are great -- the second side of their 1st album is all-time smoke -- Waterhole, Keep Prayin, Stay With Me, Knoxville Girl, GG&HT --
definitely catering to their well-heeled fans for this one -- rock on Outlaws -- One Last Ride, from their 1986 Soldiers of Fortune reunion record, is a good one -- dfrnt & xclnt

I'd have to say their best over all effort was the one Henry stopped from being released, Once An Outlaw.
Trail Of Tears from that disc alone is worth the price of admission! 😮

Dan pick up Hurry Sundown. It was remastered and put out a few years ago with new liner notes. Like the first two Outlaws records a very solid record no filler. The big difference with this record was Bill Symzyck's production and I believe he rehearsed the band working on the harmonies, songwriting, arranging, etc. specifically working some of the majik he did with his previous clients the Eagles. The Outlaws had a new bassist, Tar Heel, Harvey Dalton Arnold who contributed two great tunes the bluegrass "So Afraid" and rocker "Cold And Lonesome." Billy Jones, the under appreciated Outlaw IMO, contributed great guitar and the tunes "Holiday" the melancholy "Night Wines" which foreshadows his tragic end. Billy also cowrote "Heavenly Blues" with Henry and "Man Of The Hour" with Hughie supposedly about former roadie James Peter Britton. Hughie contributes great guitar throughout also banjo and pedal steel. His "Hurry Sundown" the title track and best known cut off the record with its High Plains Drifter theme and imagery comes off as slightly hokey compared to Jones more adult compositions again IMO. Pick it up Dan if you don't like it I'll buy it from you. Also kudos to Fanfrom71 for mentioning Once An Outlaw great record though "Trail of Tears" is my least favorite cut simply because it seems as "pandering" as "Hurry Sundown."
Great playing and lyrics by Chris Anderson. The version on OAO is far superior to the cut from It's About Pride imo.

$100 is rough but it sounds like a tiny venue.
I guess I'd pony up 100 to see a musician I really loved at a tiny place, even if he was past his prime and playing with average hired hands.
Monte Yoho, Chris Anderson and Randy Threet are certainly not average by any means. 
No, I was just thinking "What if" a player I loved would be local but would not be with the line-up I wanted, the legendary line up, but instead some replacement players.

Chris, Harvey lives in Burlington, NC and has been doing gigs around the Triangle for the past few years with the Harvey Dalton Arnold Band. He plays slide (not bass), believe it or not, and is very good.
I had a long talk with him after one of his gigs - he taught at-risk kids in the Hillsborough school system for many years, beat throat cancer and miraculously, his voice sounds fine.
He doesn't miss the old Outlaw days at all. Didn't want to talk about it, really.
I have a lot of respect and admiration for that man.
Chris Anderson and Steve Grisham were both hand picked by Hughie to play in his Guitar Army. They carry the Outlaws torch rather nicely, I get the purists views, but this is a quality line-up that still breathes life into Mr. Thomasson's music.

I believe it was PhotoRon who got me my copy of Once An Outlaw. Mucho thanks. Now if only I could find it so I could remember the tunes that are so much better than "Trail Of Tears," If my memory serves me right, Hughie had a beautiful trippy alternate reality song. Great guitar throughout ... Anyway as for the current situation of the Outlaws ... while Henry certainly appears like an opportunistic back stabber there is always two sides to every coin. The fact that 3/4 ths of the last incarnation of the Outlaws with Hughie speaks volumes. Sad but there is no way Chris, Randy, Steve, Monte would be able to make the money today other than being in the Outlaws or Notlaws as Ron likes to refer to them. However, for the music to endure it actually has to be played live IMO. I'd love to read an in depth biography of the Outlaws. Unfortunately too many of the principals are gone to get anything but a biased tale thesedays.

Chris Anderson put out one of THE classic blues - rock records ever back in the late '90s and it was produced by Warren, who also played slide on it. Matt Abts played the drums and I think Chuck might have played keyboards on a few tunes. It was entitled Old Friend and he recorded the tune before Warren did. His playing sounds a lot like SRV on this disc - my guess is that he played a Strat on it thoughout. IMHO it was one of the most outstanding discs of that decade - too bad no one ever heard it. Could never figure out why he never recorded again.
Luckily, you can still find it if you search it out - and believe me, it is worth it:
