Gregg Fans Need to Tune Into AXS TV on Tuesday, 11/3

"All My Friends: The Songs and Voice of Gregg Allman" airs on AXS Tuesday 11/3 at 10:05 AM (West Coast Time).
"The Big Interview with Dan Rather: Gregg Allman" airs on AXS at 5:00 PM (West Coast Time). You may have seen a 9 minute snippet of this in another thread, but this is the full one hour interview.
If you don't think you get AXS, you may want to look in your cable guide under HD channels. I'm getting HD channels for free via a special offer, but next year they will cost me $10/month tacked onto my cable bill. Looks like it's worth it; AXS has a TON of music stuff.

Thanks, setting the recorder for the re-air on the interview. Caught a sample of it Sunday.

Terrific interview. Dan Rather did a much better job than Howard in getting Gregg to explain his life in an insightful , expressive way. In Howard's defense Gregg seems to be in a much better place in his life right now than he was when he did the Howard interview. Gregg's comments about his current band told you all you need to know regarding how he felt about The Brother's the last few years. The 2 City Winery shows I've gone too so far have both been terrific. Two mostly different shows set list wise but very similar in the cool vibe coming off the stage. Gregg is singing with power , passion, clarity and expressiveness throughout the show. We've seen moments of these qualities from Gregg during Brother shows but never from the first moment all the way to the last moment like he has displayed in these solo gigs. I'm going back Thursday night for more of Reverend Gregg Allman. I mentioned to my brother and my son at the show that Gregg just might be in the same class as Ray Charles as far as the greatest blues singers of all time.
Sunday November 1st set list (Not in any particular order):
Statesboro Blues
I'm No Angel
Come an Go Blues
These Days
Soul Shine
Queen of Hearts
Don't want you no more
Not my cross to Bear
Ain't Wasting Time No More
Mellissa
Just A Light
Midnight Rider
Whipping Post
Southbound
Monday November 2nd:
Don't Keep Me Wondering
Please Call Home
Black Hearted Woman
Old Time Feeling
Love Like Kerosene
Floating Bridge
Can't Be Satisfied
Hot Lanta
Trouble No More
Stand Back
I'm No Angel
Midnight Ride
Mellissa
Just A Light
Whipping Post
Southbound

Gregg also played Done Somebody Wrong on Sunday night. Done Somebody Wrong on Sunday and Trouble No More on Monday were played in their traditional Brother versions ( Heavy slide work from Scott Sharrard on both tunes). If I had to pick out some highlights from each evening I would choose Queen of Hearts from Sunday and Black Heated Woman from Monday.

It was a pretty decent interview, Gregg was definitely in the mood to jab, going so far as interrupting Dan Rather on occasion. He even got long winded at time - who'd have thunk? The first half was pretty interesting, the second half was pretty boring. Dan seemed to run out of things to ask - I would have liked to hear more questions about the band, music, and Duane, than Gregg's marriages. Either way, good to see Gregg is in a good place (though I hope those were fake elephant tusks).
I've seen Gregg twice this year, at Wanee and Vibes, and both were outstanding sets - I really dig what his keyboardist has done with "Ain't Wasting Time". I missed out on the City Winery tickets - just too expensive - but I did see Scott Sharrard on the subway, probably on his way to CW, while bouncing around Manhattan tracking my girlfriend during the NYC Marathon on Sunday.

Brett, check your PMs please.

I thought Dan Rather did a most excellent job, for two reasons:
1. He showed Gregg tremendous respect both as a musician and as a person.
2. He let Gregg talk; Rather never tried to control the interview. It's not easy interviewing Gregg and everyone here knows it.
Want to talk about respect? Somewhere in the first half of the segment, Rather mentioned that Live @ Fillmore East is an archival recording listed in The Library of Congress as a seminal documentation of American music. Now THAT is respect, folks. I've never heard another interviewer of Gregg mention that fact. Rather knew full well what kind of legend he was speaking with here.

Anybody happen to know where one can stream this interview? I'd love to see it but my shitty cable service doesn't offer AXSTV

Looks like I'm in the same boat as you. AXS isn't available through my provider, Comcast.
Looking on You Tube, old interviews end up there eventually...we may just have to wait, and be patient.

Great interview....glad to see Gregg in a good place...he sounded great...

Live @ Fillmore East is an archival recording listed in The Library of Congress as a seminal documentation of American music.
I tell anyone who has never heard the album...it's just that good.

As far as I'm concerned, Eat A Peach belongs right there next to it..........

For all of $2 you can stream or download the Gregg interview from Dan Rather's Big Interview website.

Agree with others that Rather did an outstanding job of giving Gregg the space to open up and stretch out a bit. Not much new in terms of content save for some minor details here and there, but clearly the man is in a very good place right now and enjoyed the experience.
The most telling part for me was when asked what song of his Gregg would like played at his funeral, Gregg replied with, "the next one".
That to me shows he's got more in the tank and still a lot of living left to do. Very cool!

What is the song Just a light?

I really enjoyed the interview. Most of the time Gregg is interviewed he seems checked out and not interested, however he wasn't in this one. He is obviously in a far better mental state than he was on his book tour a couple of years back.
As far as his quote about "the next one", I wouldn't get too excited. I've heard him use that response in interviews before. I'll believe "the next one" when I hear a new song from him.

Just a Light is an instrumental tune Gregg's band has played at the midpoint of each of the City Winery shows this week. Gregg walks off the stage and allows the spotlight to shine on his band for about 8-10 minutes. R & B based music with plenty of horns and Mark Quinones and Steve Potts controlling the action. Other tunes that Gregg has mixed in this week include: Brightest Smile in Town, Dreams, You Don't Love Me, One Way Out, Just Before the Bullets Fly and Stormy Monday.

Whether he makes good on that promise or not, as long as his intentions are to have a road in front of him, then I am grateful.
