Gregg Allman ~ Queen of Hearts Rams Heads On Stage ~ 08/05/14

Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

For me, I think this was the best song Gregg ever composed. Maybe not as popular as..say Midnight Rider or others. But as far as composition & style, I think QOH is a great great song & personifies the soulful / jazzy side of Gregg's writing.
I had a chance to see back to back dates in the mid '70's when Gregg did the 24 piece band tour, and QOH was just an amazing song with the big band - horns, background singers, etc.

@martind28 the Gregg Allman Tour album gets overlooked, it's so good. Here are back to back versions from that tour.

Yes Queen of Hearts is one of Gregg's best compositions. And the version on Laid Back knocks it out of the park!!
Don't forget Queen of Hearts would have been on the Allman Brothers biggest selling album by far. Brothers and Sisters. Number ONE on the Billboard top 200 albums for FIVE weeks!!
If Duane Allman had lived, it would have been on the album. Nobody in that band did any serious challenging with Duane. Dickey said in 1991 that they all knew including Gregg that is was Duane's show.Â
But it didnt make the album. About 2013 a reporter ask Gregg why it didnt make the album and Gregg said" Been a long time ago so I don't want to mention any names now but his initials are Butch Trucks".

I watched this some weeks ago. It seems possible Gary Moore lifted Gregg's music for Gary's Still Got the Blues. This video oscillates back and forth between Queen of Hearts and Still Got The Blues and the comparison with the music is striking.Â

Definitely his best composition in terms of lyrics, time changes, complexity, orchestration, and on Laid Back, boy, were there a tight combo of musicians plus guests. For me, it doesn't get better. If the band refusing to even consider it for their album, I say a big Thank You for giving us Gregg's very best.
