Interesting to listen to Gregg talk at length about his one year abstinence from alcohol in 1982. If he had been able to hold on to that sobriety I have to wonder if he'd still be with us.
I can sure relate. I'm on my second round myself, this time 8 years. I learned my lesson by going back to drinking after 4 years the first time. It was OK for the first two years, just having a couple of beers, but then the genie was out of the bottle and it took control once again.

Gregg probably killed himself. In his book he talks about how shocked and turned off Che was when she discovered his "works" in a bag at her house. She got mad and left for a few hours. He had to admit to her he was a junkie and hooked on narcotics.
Jerry Garcia was just 53 years old when the excesses of being a rock star caught up with him. I remember Jerry's autopsy doctor telling the press that Jerry's organs looked like those of an 83 year old man
Gregg made it to 69. But what is really amazing is Dickey was just as bad as Gregg if not worse but is thankfully still here. And ever more amazing is Keith Richards is Dickey's age and in better shape than Dickey is today. He looks worse but seems to be okay on stage right now and man did he abuse his body over the years including smoking cigarettes like a freight train. If Keith lived like a Mormon all his life I guess he would make it to age 115.

Nice footage, the GA show and interview from the Sanger Theater is from the same year.
Great footage!! Thanks to the OP.
