I saw Gregg in 1984 and it was a tight and well played show.

Dan and David Toler were interviewed on the radio the afternoon of the show and Danny Toler said his main guitar now is a Les Paul Dickey gave him some years earlier and it's the guitar Dickey played on At Fillmore East.

Knowing that about the guitar, it made the show more special for me.

Forgive me for not remembering the year but I remember seeing Gregg in Atlanta and he was organist and part time lead singer for The Nighthawks. The other lead singer and harp player for The Nighthawks introduced Gregg Allman as being with the band at the beginning.

I'm thinking it was about 1977 or 78.

Anyone remember when Gregg was with the Nighthawks?

I think Gregg only worked with them for one tour.

@robertdee Hey man I was at that Nighthawks show at the Great Southeast Music Hall in Atlanta. I was under age but man I was glad to be there. I remember they played Crossroads. I had seen the ABB one time before that at the Omni in October of 75 so I know it was later than that but well before the 1979 reunion.

@kcjimmy Yes it then was about 1977 or 78.

We were at the same show. I still remember Gregg was stage left just as he was with the ABB. And Jimmy Thackery played a white Gibson Flying V.

They played some rocking blues than night.

I first saw the Allman Brothers Band in early 1970 and after several fantastic shows I got to see, Duane Allman was killed. Then Berry Oakley was dead. Although much different than the original band and not as good to me, I enjoyed the Chuck/Lamar lineup a lot but they broke up in 1976. That lineup of course was the most successful commercially.

Gregg in the meantime was mostly out west until he joined the Nighthawks. I guess he just wanted to play and he and Cher were over so I was pumped to see him.

I had seen the Nighthawks before Gregg joined them and enjoyed them. They never became a major act but maybe with Gregg. But actually I was glad Gregg didn't remain with them.

@porkchopbob Wow thanks Porkchopbob. Sounds good. I had seen them once before Gregg went out with them and they rocked indeed!

But I'm afraid except for an occasional show Im not big on heavy harmonica bands. I was that way with Blues Traveler.

I've been told Ace Doucette's harmonica playing is just average on At Fillmore East. But to me it's just right. Fits the band well and isn't on every tune.

Again thank you.
