Gov't Mule: War Pigs, 2003

Hope you got your headbanging gear on this morning. This is from 2003, quality is excellent. Jason Newsted (Metallica, 1986-2001), bass. You Muleheads will remember that The Mule was rotating lots of bass players through in the years following Allen Woody's death in 2000.

I was at this 5+ hour show, but didn’t make it to the end when Newstead played. I did make the back cover of the CD/DVD though. I’m underneath Bernie Worrell’s name and the only person looking in an opposite direction - no clue why. Hadn’t listened to this in years, but it’s obvious Matt didn’t do his Bill Ward homework.

@robslob Yes they wisely don't do another band's song note for note but put their own stamp on it.
Warren and Mule did do Pink Floyd very close to the original and to my ears NAILED David Gilmore's tone.
Here it is if you haven't heard it.

I was at that show too, meandean. Stayed for it all, then stood outside with brofan and others to get autographs. Think I got Jason and Matt ... Warren was the last to get to the bus and didn't sign anything...

@sang I was lucky. Got Warren's autograph. Warren even signed my copy of Pattern Disruptive which Dickey had signed for me several years earlier. Warren saw it and said " That's definitely Dickey's signature, you got him to sign it".
Then Warren said he will always owe a debt of gratitude to Dickey as he was responsible for him being in the Allman Brothers which put his (Warren's) name on the map or something to that effect.
Matt is also on Pattern Disruptive and I didn't think about that so missed his signature on that.

When and where was this?
Everything in Moderation. Including Moderation.

I too was there with two of my life long buddies @ The Saenger Theatre on May 3, 2003 for the epic Gov't Mule show. We exited the threatre at 4:30 AM after 5+ hours of music. And as if that was not enough we then headed to a club to see the blues man Bryan Lee. All this was proceeded by a full day at Jazz Fest. Not much sleep happening during jazz fest.

Oops, my mistake... The show I was at was April 19, 2002 at the Riv in Chicago. Newsted played a few songs that nlght.

@robertdee: Finally got around to Mule's version of Shine On You Crazy Diamond. Just stunning! And you're right, Warren nailed Gilmour's tone. Also Danny Louis nailed the synthesizer part to a tee. Doubt you could find another cover version this good..........

@robslob I've never heard a cover of Pink Floyd music that good. And when Warren began playing the lead guitar parts I was not expecting him to have found Gilmore's tone. Yes Warren was using a Strat but that is just part of it. Warren being the gear expert he is knew what else to do.
Pink Floyd music is not simple stuff. So kudos to Gov't Mule.
