Under rated Townshend solo album, White City, great band in this video, with that other guitar player too.

Edit: yes I realize this video is not from the album White City

I knew it was Gilmour, I was trying to be funny with my comment: "that other guitar player"

Funny comment by Townshend on the song Give Blood:

When Pete Townshend was asked about the song he said:

Give Blood was one of the tracks I didn't even play on. I brought in Simon Phillips, Pino Palladino and David Gilmour simply because I wanted to see my three favourite musicians of the time playing on something and, in fact, I didn't have a song for them to work on, and sat down very, very quickly and rifled threw [sic] a box of stuff, said to Dave, "Do one of those kind of ricky-ticky-ricky-ticky things, and I'll shout 'Give Blood!' in the microphone every five minutes and let's see what happens." And that's what happened. Then I constructed the song around what they did.

I've never caught any of Pete's tours. I really wish he would do a small theatre tour of the United States while he still has energy and enthusiasm.

I would as well, but I believe that ship has sailed.

Always liked Simon Phillips on this track. There are several drum fills from this I haven't heard in years, but I anticipated them moments before they arrived. Some cool double bass stuff in there. He's still one of my favorites. I must put on Jeff Beck's "Space Boogie" now.

I've also been curious how Gilmour does his solo. He plays the repeating four note thingy four times and then jumps up a couple octaves and plays a slight variation with some bends, but his original melody (from the first half of the solo) remains. It's not a harmonizer (due the variations), it doesn't sound like another instrument or player, and I don't think delay units at this time lasted as long as what was needed (they weren't playing to a click anyway). A simple solo, but it always vexed me.

Thanks for the post.
