GA three years gone - my Billboard remembrance of 25 years of interviews

Reflecting on 25 years of interviewing Gregg Allman to mark the third anniversary of his passing. >> https://bit.ly/36GjTnJ
"The surprising secret at the heart of Gregg Allman's blues-rock music: He was really a folkie soul singer."

Thanks Al.
"Y'all are a great bunch!"
I was heading to my car on CPW after a Beacon show and I look up and there's Gregg also by himself headed to his bus.
I said thanks for a great show and he nodded and grinned.
I thought "I love when everything goes exactly right all day long" then I continued along the empty west side streets to those parking spots that always delivered.
Just like that band.

Hi Al. Yes it is a tough day for us here in ABB land. Thanks for the post.
On a side note I know you have written some about Butch and know you have spent some time with him.
Any thoughts of an article about him? I know he is not a guitar player but he is Butch Trucks ( which is the coolest name ever). LOL.
Being a drummer myself (lousy too) I paid close attention to him and Jaimoe.
Would enjoy your thoughts as I always do.

Thanks blackey and Al. Yes and yes. LOL. I was lucky enough to be at the Capitol Theatre that night as well.
What a band they were!

I feel sorry for anyone who never heard Gregg Allman & Friends (I saw that band 14 times, ABB 21). I think Gregg's solo band performances were such a huge tribute to his amazing talent because it was COMPLETELY different than The Allman Brothers Band: A foray into Soul and R&B. Even the ABB tunes he would do were completely rearranged.
Gregg could sing the phone book and I would have paid to hear it..............
"He sang the words night after night for 45 years, with a passion that connected with people because he embraced, rather than camouflaged, his pain. When he sang you heard his father being killed when Gregg was a toddler, and his father figure, big brother Duane, dying just before his vision of the Allman Brothers Band conquering the world came true, way back in 1971."
Right On, Alan Paul
Final note: If you missed seeing GA & Friends solo, "Back To Macon" is an OUTSTANDING DVD documentation of that band.
