Full video of 1998 ABB show Great Woods

I am sure that this show has been posted here a zillion times before, and in fact this site is probably what led me to it (my brain moves slow on Saturdays), but if you have not seen it, check it out. Gregg sounds strong, and Jacky P and Dickey really wail on this, as does the new kid Oteil. Two and a half hours of glory:

Yes that is a strong show. Everyone hitting the note and the crowd is really into it. Jack and Dickey shine on Statesboro Blues and Gregg in fine voice and they never let up. Great ABB show from the Jack years. Jack was fantastic on slide.
I thought that lineup would go for 8 or 10 years. As matter of fact when Derek Trucks replaced Jack the next year, Derek said he was surprised when Warren and Allan suddenly decided to leave but when Jack and Otiel took their places, Derek thought the band still sounded very strong and figured that would be the lineup they finished the band's career around 2004 or 2009. Apparently there was some talk in the 90's to finish up around the 35th or 40th. And indeed after Derek and Warren became the guitarists, they thought they would wind it down in 2009 but then Butch wanted another 5 years.

Please Call Home (right around 34 minutes) is a gem.

Wow. Gregg sounds so good on that Please Call Home (I'd argue his vocal on the original is finest). Dickey sounds sharp & tasteful on that one too.

I backed up Dickey's little solo and to my eyes he was not using a pick. Finger picking that old 1956 Strat on Please Call Home. Very nice playing.
I saw that old Strat up close in Blacksburg, Virginia earlier this year when Allman Betts played near Virginia Tech not long before the virus cancelled their long 2020 tour. Duane Betts plays it on a couple of songs and when you see it up close, it has so much road wear on the body, especially on the body where your right arm touches it on top. Then the neck is worn badly on most of the frets. Most songs Duane Betts plays one of Dickey's Goldtop Les Pauls and the tone is way fine.
Between 1956 and when Dickey bought that old Strat about 30 years ago, someone was using it a lot. But I think all that road wear makes it look cool. Fender and Gibson made some fine guitars in the 1950's.

Thanks for posting. Great show. Really enjoyed song selection. Ending with Back Where it All Begins, Dreams and Liz Reed before encore was nice.
