I was wondering if anyone here ever saw the Brothers play this song?

Yes, late in 1980.

"Is that a real poncho or is that a Sears poncho?"

I saw them play it too and it was just after Jaimoe was voted out and David Toler was the new left side drummer. With Mike Lawler on keys and David Toler playing largely in Butch's style I was certain Duane Allman wouldn't have liked this version of the band.

But on the album it's Jaimoe on the left side, Tito Morris in the middle and Butch Trucks on the right  Mike Lawler all the way right on some weird keyboard, Dickey to the right, Danny Toler to the left.

Supposedly this is one of just three tracks Jaimoe played on on Reach For The Sky because of back issues. Then Berry Oakley's sister pushed Jaimoe to ask for a financial audit and Dickey apparently was the one who got Gregg and Butch to vote to sack Jaimoe over those things. But in 1986 when the ABB did two special shows (one for Charlie Daniels and one for Bill Graham) Dickey and the others got Jaimoe to join them because it didn't work very well without him.

No big deal I suppose. Butch and Gregg both said the Enlightened Rouges lineup just didn't have the right chemistry before Jaimoe was sacked. Danny Toler sounded too much like Dickey and David Goldflies played too many notes and wasn't a good fit then they signed with Arista, sacked Jaimoe and added Mike Lawler and that made it even worse. Butch said he regretted voting to sack Jaimoe as soon as they played the first show with David Toler. Butch said Toler's style and approach mirrored Butch's too much. That everytime Butch started to play something David Toler was already doing it. Said Jaimoe NEVER got in his way.

But when they had the big blowout with Arista Records and were shut out of the studio and it didn't matter because they were NEVER going to do another album for Arista anyway so they decided to park the band, Gregg took both of the Toler brothers and they worked with him until the ABB got back together in 1989. The Toler's were very disappointed Gregg ended their band to tour with the Brothers again. They had just gotten a deal with Epic records two years before. Well the ABB did that 1989 tour to support the Dreams box set and Gregg made more money than he did in three years with the 1980's version of the Gregg Allman Band so there is your answer.

Ooooops. I'm sorry if the above post is too long. I've had too much electric wine this afternoon. Makes me get carried away! Just ignore it. You hardcore fans already know all that anyway.
