FRIENDS OF THE BROTHERS

Great show last night at City Winery . The band has absolutely figured out the path to create that magic sound and vibe of The Brother's . Alan's unique connection to the history of the band and his wonderful rhythm playing on each song cement the message 'Friends of The Brother's are looking to spread to the masses. I got the message last night loud and clear . Lamar's vocals have taken on a new dimension and add significantly to the existing chemistry that Andy, Junior and the rest of the band have built. The highlight for me was Alan's emotional intro regarding Gregg prior to Please Call Home followed by Lamar and the band managing to take you down that road that goes on forever. Gregg's mission every night was to take us away from the daily issues that we create for ourselves for a few hours . Friend's of The Brother's followed Gregg's instructions last night . Looking around the packed room they took an appreciative NYC Wednesday night audience into that special Brother's zone that we all miss.

I fully agree. I didn't get there until halfway through please call home. I was outside City Winery and saw another band performing downstairs and wondered if I had the wrong night. Then I over heard that sound..... and walked to the loft entrance and got in to see Lamar really bringing it home and the build up of the ending by the band. Great heart felt stuff coming from the right place. I needed it after a cynical NYC day.
Andy and Jr are at the point where they make the harmonizing sound easy. The guy from London Souls wailed on Can't lose what you never had. Very cool sound he was putting out.
Thanks to AP for putting this thing together. Any other highlights from earlier in the night ?

Come and Go Blues, Franklins Tower into Blue Sky , Revival , Stormy Monday , Midnight Rider, Dreams etc... It all worked to get me to that old familiar spot. Alan said they will be playing The Cutting Room on July 11th. I saw Live at The Fillmore East in The Cutting Room a few months ago and they also have that ability to take you into that elusive zone. The difference with last night was the deep connection the guys in the band have with The Brother's. That additional element adds a unique dimension to Friends Of The Brothers. I haven't seen The Allman-Betts Band as of yet but I'm sure the direct connection to Berry, Gregg and Dickey will give us that similar feeling. The real edge Friends of The Brother's have over the other bands is Lamar . Nobody can ever replace Gregg but Lamar comes real close to singing with that heartfelt hope and pain that Brother Gregg gave us each night.

Guys, thank you so much for not only your kind words, but thoughtful commentary. it was a very special night and the band is really special. It truly is not a gig for any of us. I agree wholeheartedly about Lamar, which is why we go through some extreme measures to get him to any show we can. But I'd also say that Lamar and Andy are simply the best team of guitarists you could have to play this music right now. Getting them together was my original concept. And I feel the same about Junior's singing. I basically put this band together because it was the band I wanted to hear, post Les Brers. Playing in it is just gravy. Thanks again and see you next time!

I love Andy Aledort. In my ears Great Southern was the best vibe nailer of the Allman Bro's music, even than the ABB with Warren and Derek, they were great, but Dickey and Andy really nailed it. I remember just listening eyes closed and it was the sound I knew.
Friends Of The Brother's is in a similar vein, I love Andy and Junior's duels. Great replication of the music. Any vid's to get a peek into the room. I know you've had multicamera angle clips in the past.

Thanks Fretsman. Wish you were there!
There was a lot of video shot but I don't have any handy right now. Will post some stuff on Facebook page.
