My Anti-virus and internet security with AVG has just doubled in price for the next 12 months. Any of you good chaps got any ''free'' Anti-virus software I can download. Many thanks in advance.

Cybersight RansomStopper=free
Avira Free
CCleaner=Free
Auslogics Disk Defrag=Free
Super Anti-Spyware=Free
Malwarebytes=Free

Main problem with Malwarebytes is that it can detect some games and freeware as infections and deletes them.
I've used all of them and that was the only problem i've had.

You need the Malwarebytes because malware is different than a virus.

You also need a good antivirus software for viruses.

CC Cleaner is excellent to clean the unnecessary stuff that collects on your computer.

I was virused three times using Norton antivirus and I loved Norton. Most times a good tech can fix your system, but if the FBI sends a trojan horse and gets into your system, it's baaaaad. I had a systems analyst help me and all my programs were unrecoverable. Fortunately he downloaded his copies of his programs like Malware bytes etc. for me.

Back up you data and programs on an external hard drive. Learn about VPN's, virtual private networks, get some offshore email accounts cause they love to mess that up too. They have no access to email servers in other countries.

It doesn't matter that you are not doing anything, they will mess you up because they can whenever they want to. Keep your privacy.

I've used the free version of Avast for years with no problems. Also use free CCleaner to clean up - it is also owned by Avast now.

I rubbed some hydroxychloroquine on my lap top so I should be protected from a virus.

If you see/get that FBI screen do this:
1) hit the ctrl, alt, del keys all at the same time
2) Open Task manager
3) Select the browser you are using (most likely the process at te top of the list
4) click "end task"
That should close your browser and allow you to reboot your system.
Run Fixncr and Rkill, reboot, then run Malwarebytes or SuperAnti-Spyware.
That can fix about 97% of any infections, but it doesn't stop/repair ransomware. That is why you need ransomstopper, but it has to be on your system to stop the attack before they encrypt your system.

Also, Gina, no anti-virus software will stop something from coming in that you give permission to.
Some of the worst infections I ever worked on were caused by people clicking on the pop-ups thinking they could just close the window. Some of those took trying to close the window as permission to run the program.
Thus you should always run the ctrl/alt/del and end task routine.
One of those customers landed on a "World Record" site as the most infected computer in the world with over 613,000 viruses on the video.
https://recordsetter.com/world-record/viruses-computer/41112
Tried to get back and do another video when called and said it went over 2,000,000 infections, but it crashed before i could get back from lunch.

Thanks Jerry. Nefarious people infected some international news websites at different times. Sometimes it is so fast all you can do is try to cut your power modem or router. Control alt delete may be too slow even hitting the power button to turn it off may not be fast enough. In the old days I'd pull the ethernet cord out. Sometimes it is just too late.

That is why you need to have these programs ON and installed on your computer. It helps keep them from loading onto your computer, and will more than likely help you repair your own computer rather than take it in to a shop and pay about $200 to get it fixed.
The two worst types are those that get into the boot sector and prevents you from repairing it , and ones that get into the firmware tracks on the hard drive.

The boot sector ones can be bad enough that you have to re-format the drive and you loose your data, but still have your drive to re-use. The firmware type, well, just look at replacing the hard drive and using it as a paperweight.
