I don't mind them doing these shows. Yup, a money grab for their retirement (including email blasts last week to preorder the DVD/CD sets of these shows, considerably cheaper than the $800 30 years set (only $200 or so). But if they want to play great. Up to me to choose to listen or not. My Dead days were 85-95 (though lived in SF so got to JGB and Garcia/Grisman, which by 92 were often better).
Been catching these shows out of interest, plus I like Hornsby a lot. Not a big Phish fan (used to see them in the 80s in Vermont, when I was down the road in Middlebury and they were still the house band at Nectar's in Burlington), but Trey's surprised me more than I expected.
After watching the pay per view last night at a July 4th party, I did order it tonight, so I guess they got me. But I knew in advance what I was getting.
But just fun to see some of the original guys playing songs I like. I don't expect China>Rider to sound like 72, and Estimated was the most sluggish version ever, but still fun.
Now let's get a Sugaree w/Horsnby singing!

Samson!

I've got friends all over the stadium texting me and sending me pictures. These shows were billed as a celebration, and that's exactly what they are. 50 years on, and there's 70,000 people dancing to this music again.

Celebrate!!!

had to get ppv tonite. figured it'd be nice to "see" the scene as well as the tunage. and hell, for all the free music they have allowed recorded & traded since day 1, they can have my $30 today.
The feeder of the live stream RAWKS!!!!!!!! It's the 21st century, and the tapers can beam the sound around the world, in real time!!! Brother Owlsley, thank your for being a pioneer in that and other time traveling aspects!!!!!!!!
never really into the dead but did appreciate what they did, cuz when they were really hittin the note, they could indeed transport you WAY OUT!!!! speaking of psychedelic, got the ppv fed thru two tvs that are a room apart, and the sound settings are different, so there are different sounds being hi-lited on each tv. it's a trip moving between the two, as they basically sit in the same large room. sweet!!!!!!
Trey is right on! can't see WH in this role for these last shows. Trey's got the needed touch.
listened to set 2 from last nite today on the Sirius replay, and man, most of it was sleepy..... US Blues > Fireworks was pretty cool. Couldn't go out any other way on the 4th.
digging how tonite's gone so far!!! bring it one more time fellas, for those who've gone before you!
Dark Star!?! late fist set. get gooey!!!
looks like a BEAUTIFUL night in the Windy City, go Cubs!

I thought Zakk Wylde was subbing tonight.

Mountains of the Moon...
Or is it Fennario?

I'm glad they are doing these shows. I've loved what I've heard. Watching tonight with friends and it's cool hearing stories from people who were there

I remember when everyone would get so excited when Phil sang...:P

Throw them stones!

It's lovely to see and hear this band on great ppv. and as scleif said, they have brought so much good music. A national treasure! Blessed to have been able to attend some GD concerts. Throwing Stones!

Nice.
Stellar first set.
Really almost like a second set.
I could stand another 10 years of this.

I still have a cassette somewhere of the Hamptons show in '85 when the brought Box of Rain back out. I think (but my memory could be wrong!) that Phil started singing again w/"Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues", though he was also singing "Gimme Some Lovin" w/Brent too

Agree with all this (especially the Cub love). I bought it tonight too after enjoying the audio link for a couple days I wanted to visually appreciate it.

On the PPV they are showing all the mail order envelopes with all the art that they received. Amazing!

Good spot for Throwing Stones.

KIck ass first set.
Trey is holding his own.
Im impresssed!

Good set...last night was different and IMO,stronger-the best of all the shows so far-looking forward to seeing how they close out.
This run has been lot of fun so far.So glad they did this.

i'm ready for TERRAPIN

Lots of second set songs in the first set! Nice trey solo on throwing stones!

I agree! The 4th and then the 3rd were really good. Santa Clara had it's moments. Wish they did the Bay Area send off after Chicago, but oh well. But just a fun run. Nice bit of fireworks over Soldier Field right now

Truckin'

Nice intro to Truckin. Thought it might of been a Spoonful

Nice indeed.
