Hornsby is tearing it up too! This is some jazzy Dead music.

Billy gave this song a mention in his book. Said it would be a lot better if they had had more time to work it up.

There were days
and there were days
and there were days between
Summer flies and August dies
the world grows dark and mean
Comes the shimmer of the moon
on black infested trees
the singing man is at his song
the holy on their knees
The reckless are out wrecking
The timid plead their pleas
No one knows much more of this
than anyone can see anyone can see
There were days
and there were days
and there were days besides
when phantom ships with phantom sails
set to sea on phantom tides
Comes the lightning of the sun
on bright unfocused eyes
the blue of yet another day
a springtime wet with sighs
a hopeful candle lingers
in the land of lullabies
where headless horsemen vanish
with wild and lonely cries lonely cries
There were days
and there were days
and there were days I know
when all we ever wanted
was to learn and love and grow
Once we grew into our shoes
we told them where to go
Walked halfway around the world
on promise of the glow
Stood upon a mountain top
Walked barefoot in the snow
Gave the best we had to give
How much we'll never know we'll never know
There were days
and there were days
and there were days between
polished like a golden bowl
The finest ever seen
Hearts of Summer held in trust
still tender, young and green
left on shelves collecting dust
not knowing what they mean
Valentines of flesh and blood
as soft as velveteen
hoping love would not forsake
the days that lie between lie between

That "Days Between" was beautiful. Bobby did a great job singing. That's some song.

last night was a good show burt nothing worth listening to again. These shows were fun as can be as they happened but it clearly wasn't the Dead.Simply an excellent band of musicians playing excellent songs very well.

Trey merits great appreciation for playing a tough part extremely well.He plays this kind of music better than many who attempt to do so.Chimente(SP?),Hornsby,Trey, and Phil were terrific and the drummers were very good in all the shows.Weir had difficulties, the harmonies were,at times, mangled but overall an excellent few nights.

Clearly,to me,July 4th was by far and away the most energized and interesting show. The others aren't close imo.

I haven't listened to any of the three shows but I like last night's set list the best. I'm sure someone will offer them up. At least I hope so.

I took my wife to the parking lot Friday to tailgate. I was hoping to show her Shakedown Street but it didn't seem like the ones I experienced of old. It was a mess so we didn't stay long.

At least she saw some weirdos I have told her about forever. 😉

I took my older brothers (and I am 48!) to a Phish show a few years back in Atlanta to witness the lot scene, and after the show, some guy was just (and I mean just) putting a huge slab a meat on a spit. It looked like a human torso.

My brothers aren't huge fans of the music, but we have been every year since. It's become our yearly bonding thing as we all live 700 miles apart. Next show will be August 1st.

Thanks to all the members of The Dead and their crew members through the years for the memories.

Glad this is over. In no way is this the Grateful Dead. Great musicians, but not in the spirit of the music at these prices.

Agreed.
Jerry WAS The Grateful Dead.
That's not a knock on people who had a great time this weekend or folks who are too young to have seen Jerry in his prime.

I guess the same points could be made about ABB and Duane. People freely paid the price requested; the core members are older. Trey and Hornsby allowed them to play full shows. It is what it is (or was what it was) never to happen again if the members are to be believed. I say just enjoy - life is too short

Really?

I disagree. We could discuss how much Duane contributed vocally, writing wise, or how long the ABB soldiered on without him, but those discussions still won't reveal what Jerry Garcia brought to the Grateful Dead.

That's just my opinion but the comparison doesn't work.

Agree - you can certainly feel how much Duane meant to the band by listening to the Fillmore shows, or any of the live shows from his era.
But it's not the same as what Jerry meant to the GD.

Listened to all 3.
That money grubbing band allowed the shows to be recorded and posted on the internet. Can you believe it?
(sound quality is quite good)

Very good shows, as good as could have been hoped for. I doubt I'll listen to them again but I'm glad I heard them once.
As others have said, Trey did a great job paying homage to Jerry but he still sounded like Trey.
Keys were great., Phil, the drummers, great as expected.
Lead vocals were... lacking. Bobby ruined Stella Blue for me.

After hearing these shows, I get why they did it. As Derek said, it's nice to go out on a high note and thank the fans. Soldiers Field 1995 was anything but that.
They did it right. Sure, tix were expensive but that's what the market supported.
I would have been happy to pony up the cash if the Allmans had a PPV webcast of their final shows, and also a DVD, and I'm sure many others on this site would have been, too. It would have been a win - win for all involved, but...

I found the Fare Thee Well shows to be exactly what they were, at face value.

Says right there on the ticket..."Fare Thee Well - Celebrating 50 Years of The Grateful Dead"

It was a celebration of the music and those timeless songs, and as Mountain Girl said after the Sunday show, "This has been like a huge family reunion."

The "prices?" Didn't bother me a bit. One person's opinion.

Watching and admiring these three shows makes me rue the lack of direction and initiative on the part of ABB and their organization that precluded a similarly dignified and stylish farewell of their own last year...good ol' grateful dead....

Bingo! And Dickie and the others who came/went.

Having just returned from all 5 shows, I can say one thing: It was good to be back at shows again. People (like me) needed some closure and we sure got it in spades! The band sounded great, only repeated 2 songs, did their best, had a blast and made us all proud. Sure Trey is not Jerry, but that wasn't why we went. Not to dis anyone, but if you watched the show instead of attended, then you missed a HUGE part of why this was happening and can't/don't understand.
And the fans, well, if you were in the airport with me yesterday and all of a sudden 4 gates were clapping out Not Fade Away and everyone was hugging and high fiving even though planes were delayed and people were trying to get back, well it would have brought a tear to your eye.

And as for ticket prices, here's some news: Don't ever pay over cost. Don't ever sell over cost. I went to Chicago with NO tickets. I bought a $75 Friday night, a $65 Saturday night and got 2 freebies for Sunday!! All because THAT'S what being a deadhead is all about. I mentioned that buying/selling at cost is all I've ever done in the lobby of the Hyatt and 15 people all told me the same thing. We look out for each other. As do my ABB peeps. Be Kind!
