Fantastic new book about Southern Rock

Simply incredible. Picked this up and it is, without doubt, THE BEST book about Southern Rock ever written. Period.

Have had it a year or so & yes it is excellent.
Worth every cent.

Thanks for pointing this out - looks cool and I just ordered.

I have it on my Amazon wish list for a year or so, so i would like to ask:
1) Nice pictures / memorablia inside? And if so: are those all familiar ones or also some rare gems?
2) Does the contents go deep into the subject matter or is it the usual write-up focusing on the many tragic
deaths (ABB, MTB, LS)?

Rich!
How are ya brother? Long time no see...etc...etc...
Thanks for the suggestion on this . As it happens, my local library has a copy, and all I had to do was go to the website...click...and I'll have it as soon as the current holder is finished with it.
Happy days ...:)

Yes on both counts. The photos overall are the best I've ever seen - and that's even including a few of the ABB I've never seen before.
And the text itself is quite informative and detailed. This is not a schlock deal, hurriedly put together just to make a few bucks...this is clearly a labor of love.
I picked my copy up for $7.86 NEW + 3.99 shipping - a veritable STEAL in IMHO.
Enjoy.

I absolutely, 100% GUARANTEE you will LOVE IT.
If not PM me and I will buy it from you to give it to someone as a gift.
But something tells me you won't be givin' it up..... ; )

One of my favorite subjects. Thanks for the heads up.

Been thinking about this one for a while and you guys have pushed me over the top. Just placed my order with Amazon, $13.82 with free Prime shipping.
Now I've got Les Brers coming in tomorrow and this one a day or two later.

Thanks a bunch for the info!

There is a pic in there of Elvin Bishop and Dickey. But I think it
is Elvin's guitarist Johnny V. But I could be wrong. However, that
aside, it is an excellent book.

Not saying I'm right, but I'm about 95% sure that is Dickey in that photo, just without his 'stache. I realize he is holding a Strat, but that's what Johnny played and since it was backstage in Atlanta and the Capricorn PR guys are there, I have to think it was a showcase show for Elvin and Dickey just happened to be there. That and the fact that Dickey is pointing to Elvin, like, "Don't look at me, look at him, it's his night," also makes me think that it is DB. And I have never seen a photo of Johnny V. (not that I've seen THAT many of him) without HIS 'stache.
Anyway, all fun points for discussion, and that's what it's all about, right?

Just added it to my Wish List. Thanks, Rich!

You're very welcome, Peg. I'm just amazed that not only do you not already have it, but that you didn't contribute most of the info to it!

It is packed. I wish it had an index.

I just said the same thing when I was trying to locate that Dickey & Elvin photo.

Hey Rich,
Great to see your name on here, hope you are doing well my friend!
Speaking of this book, look on page 255, that is the album cover I designed for the band Alias called Contraband. First time some of the Skynyrd guys played together again after the crash. Gary and Allen were still too injured to play on it. Had some fun hanging with them in the studio back then!

Wow. It is SO GOOD to hear from you again, Wayne. Hope things are well with you and your family.
BTW, I gave you props in the MTB UK thread....that MTB show from '77 at the Uptown in Chicago that you sent me is coming out as an import:
Can't wait to hear it. Thanks again for ALL the great music you've sent me over the years.....you are the man.

We are doing great Rich, had a bought with cancer last year but have that in check so things are looking good. Bought a Triumph motorcycle and still digging good music! Would be great to catch up with you again.
DIdn' t know that about that MTB show, that is a good one! And thank you for all of the music, that Bruce show from the Capitol Theater is still played all of the time.

[quote that Bruce show from the Capitol Theater is still played all of the time.
I may have better versions of that now....might be time for you to have an upgrade...
Very sorry to hear about your bout with cancer but I am OVERJOYED that you are OK. Thank God for that, Wayne!
I would love to catch up with you too. Check your PMs

Thanks Rich and I will.

Thanks for the heads up on this.
I ordered it Monday and got it yesterday... amazing.
This is a gold mine. What a wonderfully done book. Started thumbing thru it yesterday and bam 2 hours had gone by.
A must have for any southern rock fan.

Thanks for the heads up on this.
My pleasure. And I completely agree.

Excellent read -- picked it up a week or two ago after your headsup, brofan, & the other posts -- real nice -- puts it all under one roof -- tons of information that's been a blast to soak up flipping those thick-stock pages -- had always wanted to know more about the 'scene' & the bands covered in the book -- the print on Doug Gray's foreword is sorta small 😮 😮 need magnifying glass -- really glad I picked this up

really glad I picked this up

I"m glad you did too, Stephen, and even gladder that you're enjoying it so much!

Thanks for the recommendation on this, Rich! I'll check it out.
I've enjoyed seeing you and other familiar names posting! Very much appreciated!

Coming from one of the classiest people I've ever met from HTW, Randall, that means a lot. Thank you, Brother. I hope you are doing well.

I have been debating on picking this up for a little while now. Everytime I think I am going to pull the trigger I read in the description "Kid Rock", "Molly Hatchett", "38 Special" & "Black Oak Arkansas" and I change my mind.
I like some bands classified as Southern Rock, but I cringe at others.

PLEASE don't let that stop you. You won't regret it.
If you do, I will buy it from you and give to someone else as a gift.
Do you think all these people have regretted their purchases?
