Unless I missed someone posting this, most likely Joe Bell, the first two Cowboys cds are now for sale on Hittin' the Note. I've dreamed of this day....well I've hoped someone would see the value in reissuing these fantastic cds. Kudos once again to HTN. I ordered both today. Can't wait to get them.

As a sidebar, I downloaded the first three Marshall Tucker Band cds over the holidays. Received an iTunes gift certificate for Christmas and said, I have to do this, now! Man, is this stuff sweet. They take me back in a very positive way to my past. My best friend, Billy and I, skipped school to see Tucker at Shippensburg State College in 1975. Grinderswitch opened. If you loved this band back in the '70s and don't have any digital MTB, do it! Toy was such a monster player and songwriter. Paul Hornsby is an unsung Capricorn hero for his productions efforts and keyboard playing on these cds.
I was psyched to download their music and even more excited once I had it on my ipod and could listen to the boys any time I wanted to.

Is this a newly remastered and reissued cd or is it just a copy from an earlier analog recording? I've seen the latter sold on Amazon, Ebay, etc. Who is behind the release, particularly, 5'll Getchya 10? I bough a great remastered version of Reach For The Sky several years ago. If it's a new issue, then thank heavens and hopefully the B&T album will be soon to foillow!

Good question on the remastering. One of my, three, audiophile college roomies has shared with me that the momentarily-revived Capricorn of the '90s reissued "Reach For The Sky" and did in fact remaster the recording. According to him, "loving remastered and buffed to a high sheen". There was talk of someone selling these cds that were just the lp batched to computer .... These cds from HTN are not digital records of the lp(scratches, hisses and all).

I was lucky enough to purchase both Johnny Jenkins Capricorn '90s vintage reissues. The remastering on those is fantastic.

Kudos once again to our posse at HTN....They're the best.

Renovah, have you heard the Boyer & Talton album? It's the best of Cowboy's work IMO. Also there is a little known Sandlin, Talton and Stewart album. I believe it's called Happy To Be Alive. It's a gem too. I always thought Gregg should cover the title tune. 😉

Yes, I love the Boyer-Talton lp, as well. And agree that it to should be remastered and put out digitally. It may be my favorite, too.

I had the "Happy to Be Alive" lp. They did "Working in a Coal Mine", which I thought was really catchy.

Can we get any intel on who made all this happen. Took money, primarily, or course. Some legal wrangling, I imagine. As I mentioned, I'm very happy to see this all go down with the first two Cowboy albums.

Charlesinator, you bring up an excellent point on Boyer-Talton.

To make certain what you are saying, I do not want to purchase 5'll Getchya 10 from HTN if it is the lp batched to computer. I think you are saying that what HTN is selling is a clean digital version with no scratches, hisses, etc. Correct? and thank you for answering my query.

wearly69, You are correct. These have been remastered. No lp to digital batch. I just received my two copies of the Cowboy cds Saturday. The sound is beautiful... how about the music is beautiful and the sound is outstanding. HTN got them to me it two days!

5'll Getcha Ten has the old ATCO pink Carpricorn label. Old school and very cool. Reach for the Sky has the yellowish ATCO label. Both contains a 6 page booklet with liner notes from a Scott Schnider, and comments from Tommy Talton and Scott Boyer. Nicely done!

Thanks for the order Revonah!

Yes - these two new releases are remixed and remastered from the original analog tapes.
There are also some very fine liner notes that Tommy and Scott participated in making.
And, YES, there is talk of releasing Boyer & Talton and maybe Happy To Be Alive !!!!
We will let you know when that happens.

here is the link to the HTN Cowboy section:

Devoted, and that's a very good word for it, a better part of MLK Day immersing myself in the 2 Cowboy cds. Really a great laid-back day off and of course listened to "God Rest His Soul" by Gregg, too.

LeglizHemp, let me know if you win the bid on that extemely cool poster. It's one of my favorites, not only for the artwork but also due to the fact that Cowboy was the opener. Is that poster from the time Duane was in the band?

I think I've got all of the Cowboy albums in one format or another, as well as Happy To be Alive, Capricorn Rhythm Section, The Best Of Cowboy - A Different Time, couple CD's Scott put out with the Decoys. Scott also was kind enough to send me some side project CD's he'd done several years back.

I'm also in the camp that thinks the Cowboy - Boyer & Talton album is probably their best release, but that would not minimize how great the rest of the other albums are. Great great writers and musicians - some of my favorites. Had the pleasure to promote one of their shows years back and see them a handful of times. Wonderful music!!!!!!
