I saw electric 3 piece Hot Tuna at the Keswick Theatre in Glenside, PA the Saturday after Thanksgiving last year and they absolutely split my skull. One of the best shows I have ever seen by anybody. You'd never know that Jack & Jorma are in their 70's.

You my friend are in for an absolute treat. Very jealous!

Operation Tuna Melt log: On the road now - am at the Hi Lo in Weed Ca. If you ever come thru Weed stay here. Old school, and they have great burgers.

So, when I was at Fur Peace in 2015 Jorma had just got a new Gibson Explorer - was he playing that ?

Those that can't join Brer at the Fillmore can join him in spirit here at the closing of the Fillmore West. Hot Tuna comes on about 28 minutes or so. You hear Jack Casady playing as Bill Graham reminisces about his street theater days.

I lived in San Francisco at the time and this theater was my second home. They even had couches at the back where you could crash. I saw Hot Tuna there many times. In fact the first time I saw the Allmans was at the Fillmore with Hot Tuna. This was a couple of months before at Fillmore East and those shows that week were very special.

Enjoy the Fillmore and be sure and check out the upstairs room at the back where historic posters from Fillmore shows back to the 60's cover all the walls. They always have someone playing some acoustic stuff in there before the big shows start and it's always good.

Then when you come back downstairs, there is a lobby in the rear of the main hall, some GREAT pictures to be seen there..............Janis, The Dead, Cream, etc. As for the main theatre, what they did with it 20 years ago is just awesome............chandeliers, beautiful curtains. And from my experience, the history of the place brings out the best in musicians. Only one thing: You'll likely be standing for the entire show unless you get there very early. Seating is very limited. Most of it is on the second level, to the left if you were facing the stage.

I want to say he was playing a Gibson Thunderbird the night I saw him, actually.

Any reviews for electric Hot Tuna?

have loved Jorma's playing - and Jack - forever in their various combos but have been turned off in recent years by the consistently lousy vocals. Which is a shame. I can't imagine I'm the only one here that notices Jorma is so often off key it's off-al. I don't understand how he can hear himself and not correct it.

Unless years of high volume fun have taken their aural toll.

Yes me droogies , a splendoriffic excursion, Tuna packed the house and blew the doors off. Jorma fat on a Les Paul, and Jack was on a cherry red something, which he played very well. Both were in high spirits, the scheduled opener Steve Kimock didnt show so Tuna started early and finished late, performed over three hours, easily. Unfreakinreal man. Busted out some Bark, Trial By Fire, and Feel So Good, so there was a bit of a visit to the cockpit of the Jefferson Airplane. Top form, audience was beatiful, venue haunted, some of the best electric you will ever hear, do not miss, there are Electric Hot Tuna dates coming up in Brooklyn, Staten Island, check out their site. They rarely play electric, so reel in that Tuna while it is hot folks.

Haha - Whats not to like about vox that sound like a two-pack a day laryndectomy speedfreak with a five-note range wheezing thru a hole in his neck?

(just kidding Jorma, if by some off chance you stumble across this! I love your voice! Am reefering to Easy Now off Phosporescent Rat, which you didn't play, even tho you heard my request, but that's cool, I doubt you could recreate that tone effect, unbelievable chainsaw blender thing, and actually was quite relieved you didn't bust out the flange. Flange is ok here and there, but to leave it on the entire show and cycling between songs was audience abuse and just plain unfair)

It's perfect for punk. Maybe they can reform Vital Parts and SVT.

Poor jorma - his fans are merciless.

I once asked Jorma, in person: "Do you have ANY idea what your electric playing was doing to us?"

He replied: "Do you have any idea what it was doing to us?"

I don't get it either. Jorma is an intelligent quick witted approachable guy (in my experience). I'm not being merciless. Just stating facts.

Saw a ton of Capitol Theater shows back in the day and have been delighted to see them posted by MV. We always wondered what happened to the footage 'cause there were nearly always cameras.

What did he mean? Pretty simple- permanent hearing loss.

Here's another quote from Jorma, around 2001, at an acoustic show in Arizona, I heard someone ask him, "Hey Jorma, are you gonna do an electrc set?"

He replied, "Ok, suit yourself, it's your hearing."

They rarely do the electric anynore, and when they do it is far more tolerable than it used to be.

A bit from wiki re loud noise and hearing loss:

"Stereocilia (along with the entirety of the hair cell) in mammals can be damaged or destroyed by excessive loud noises, disease, and toxins and are not regenerable. Environmental noise induced hearing impairment is probably the most prevalent noise health effect according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Abnormal structure/organization of a bundle of stereocilia can also cause deafness and in turn create balance problems for an individual. In other vertebrates, if the hair cell is harmed, supporting cells will divide and replace the damaged hair cells."

Stereocilia before and after 1970s Tuna:
