I was thinking of how they almost (did?) enough material for another record - though as stated a few members didn't care about recording another studio record (though Derek said they could have used his stdio, and Warren wanted another shot after Hittin' The Note...).

But as I thought about how great a release of the unrecorded songs (best live versions?), I realized that "Dusk Till Dawn" was fast becoming a "new" favorite. Imagine my surprise when I heard Gregg sing it on 3-17-13.

Was this the only time he sang it? Obviously he didn't "own" it yet - too bad they didn't record in the studio - a different key and I think he could have made it great.

Anyway - are there any other shows he sings it? I'd love to hear those.

I really love Warren singing it - everything about the time changes and Derek - but kinda wondered how Gregg could have dug in on it...

Thanks for reading.

The next year Warren was singing it again, so that might've been the only time. I remember them rehearsing the song before the show that night so Gregg could get comfortable with it. I always wondered if he decided he wanted to take a crack at the song or if someone else suggested it.

Wow - that would have been interesting hearing him try to get used to it.

So that one time - of any shows - was the only time Gregg sang it? I know Warren sang it earlier in the run - and then later in tour and following year - though I wasn't sure if Gregg ever gave it another shot. Too bad - if they'd have gone in the studio he could have "owned" a few of these songs.

I would love for them to do both., a release of all the "new songs" recorded live - and also a "blues" live release. (but I just want it all, lol)

By the way, am I the only one who thinks the Jones Beach show 9-7-13 is a special show??

I think he sang it twice, not 100% sure...I loved the version with Trombone shorty.

I loved the version with Trombone shorty.

That was the best one I've heard.

Was that the Beacon March 19, 2014 show, with Trombone Shorty? But I'm assuming Warren sang that in 2014, correct?

Help - Any idea possible the other time Gregg sang? I'd really love to hear it...

Thank you.

Warren sang that one.

So I was about to post that I was pretty sure that Beacon show was the only time Gregg sang this open, but I decided to Google first and it turns out he also sang it at Wanee that year:

I found this link on the Wanee forum. He still doesn't sound that comfortable with it to me, and the next time they played it, at the Peach Festival, YouTube videos show Warren sang. So the March 19 Beacon show and the first Wanee show from 2013 are probably the only two times Gregg took the vocals on this one.

I suspect if they had ever done a studio version, it was earmarked for Gregg. He would have crushed it in the studio environment.

That's awesome info - thank you both!

I will check Wanee that year.

Also, I totally agree - it *felt* like a potentially great Gregg song (like Desdemona) - in the correct key, he would have nailed...

I'll third that. Although I think it would have wound up back in Warren's hands sooner or later, like Maydell did.
