It certainly is hard to imagine Duane at 73. Would sure have been something though. I think everybody wonders what music we might have from all those years.

Thankful for what we do have and hoping there is more in the future pulled from somewhere.

Pulling out the Skydog box today and grinning ear to ear listening to that guitar.

Yes if he had lived Laidback probably would not have been recorded and Brothers and Sisters would have been a different album. Queen of Hearts likely would have been on it but Ramblin' Man, Jessica, Southbound and Pony Boy would have too but Duane would have played the Dobro. Duane looked out for Dickey and made sure he got his music on the records and same with Gregg.

Yeah b. I think you are probably right about Laidback.

Can you imagine Duane's guitar on Jessica? But then maybe no Chuck... hmm.

Well we will never know and it is bittersweet to even think about.

My guess is the originial six would have kept it going for 40 years or more like ZZ Top with their original three. So not only would Chuck never joined, neither would any of the players in the later lineups. Jessica would have sounded somewhat different. Some of the final arrangement came from Chuck but Dickey wrote the cords and melody but how the song was shaped came a lot from Chuck. Les Deduk came up with the bridge when Dickey got stuck so that idea would have come from Duane or Berry meaning it would be Jessica but it would have some differences from what we hear on the album.

All their subsequent albums would have been very different and likely have different names.

But it didnt happen that way and we will never know. Who knows by 1980 or 90 Duane may have been ready to fold the band and come up with something new. But that brotherhood the original six had makes me think they would have stayed together and Duane definatly would have become a multimillionaire. Gregg said just as the money finally started to pour in Duane was gone. He got one good check right before the accident. Gregg said financially his brother was cheated because just a couple years after he was killed Gregg and Dickey were wealthy and the band had a lot of money in its account too.

I think he would have gotten bored and went off into a lot of different musical directions with most being very non-commercial.

I would like to think he'd have gotten clean and reached his full potential. He was a strong cat and I think he would have.
