Amidst all of the numbing sadness around the losses we ABB fans have felt this year, I have seen some things that point forward. Duane Betts is one of them--his playing at the "get together" after Gregg's funeral was noticeable to me. Noticeably powerful and melodic. He built his solos like....well I won't compare. I've seen some other videos since that speaks further to his excellent playing. He's played with Michael Allman, Jaimoe and others and just seems ready to take the mantle. Perhaps we'll get lucky and we can see some of the next generation contemplate working together on some level and continue a legacy built on great music. One of my children goes to school in Westwood, so I need to get down there more to see Duane play as I believe he lives down that way. Check out some of the recent youtubes on him, tell us what you think.
