Interesting, that's pretty darn close. I've never heard this song. A judge ruled that George Harrison "subconsciously" copied "He's So Fine" when he wrote "My Sweet Lord", so maybe that's the case here as well. But this even has the words "Shine" in all of the right spots.

I've heard this before and read a discussion somewhere where it compared to Soulshine. i suspect this is just a subconscious influence. Warren definitely listed to tons and tons of early 70s music with his brothers and Dad.

Seems too close for comfort. While this subconscious copying concept is out there, this is more like led zeps stealing dazed and confused from Jake Holmes

They just played that on Deep Tracks on SiriusXM. Very similar.

I'd never heard of Jesse Colin Young before now but I remember hearing some songs by the youngbloods.

I listened to the song and yes it really does sound like Soulshine.

Perhaps Jesse Colin Young is Warren's daddy....

I have heard of this guy before but never heard that particular song. I wonder if some writer (or anyone I guess) would have the whatevers to ask Warren if this song influenced him in some way. Musicians say so-and-so was an influence on them all the time.

Maybe a big deal, maybe not...

No doubt its a nick, though I suspect unintentionally

Jesse had a run of amazing albums from about 72-76. Song for Juli is nearly perfect, Lightshine is really good, side one is astounding, side 2 has some filler, Songbird is really decent. The records before and after this had amazing highs and some pretty mediocre filler

Also worth finding are a couple of live shows that are commonly traded, Boston Music Hall, 4/15/76 and Ultrasonic Studios 11/19/63.

JCY was a great writer and still brings it. No spring chicken anymore, but vocals & guitar playing still quite good. Saw him a few years ago in small venue, and it was a great night of music.

Similarities for sure. But as a whole, I hear two distinct animals. Personally, I've always been more concerned with that, "talk is cheap but the story is good ..." line in "Maydell". Did Warren steal from REO Speedcookie? Scandalous! 😉

I can see it happening through imprinted memory without conscious awareness. I wrote a great poem I found so amazingly creative in title. Tomorrow Never Knows. Ahh, ya might want to play Rubber Soul again dumb@ss.....
