Dickey Betts at the Winterland 1974

It's Dickey's birthday, might as well spin some of his best music. Love this show.

Yes indeed Dickey is 79 years old today.
Dickey has to be the best guitarist ever in the Allman Brothers if you measure it by his great playing incorporating his very own unique style, his great song writing which provides the ABB with many of it's most famous songs ( Blue Sky, Ramblin' Man, Jessica, In Memory of Elizabeth Reed, Southbound, High Falls etc etc) and his warm country style vocals.

And just one year before the great solo show Porkchopbob provided us for listening enjoyment today, Dickey was at the Winterland with the Allman Brothers Band and the great Brothers and Sisters lineup and tour.

Happy Birthday to the one and only Dickey Betts.
Around 1978 my friend Chris won 3rd row center for Great Southern at Calderone Concert Hall in Hempstead, N.Y.
Thanks WLIR who gave us the tickets and did a live broadcast.
Dickey comes out and says
"We didn't come here tonight to tell no lies".
Indeed.
RIP Brother Chris.

Perhaps (or definitely) overshadowed by Duane and overlooked by the music press - especially the RS list of 100 greatest guitarists (I think they actually had him about 6 spaces behind Joan Jett) - Dickey Betts has always been waaaay up on my list of favorites and greats! Happy birthday to the man in the hat! Thanks for posting these great clips!

I believe this is the moment you're referring to:

Posted by: @aiqHappy birthday, Mr. Betts and thank you.
X2 - an incomparable musician
would be so cool to see a current photo of Dickey & Jaimoe together - perhaps joined by Willie & Kim - they lived it
hope you’re enjoying your day brother - man that version of The Preacher 4/28/1985 My Father’s Place - effin indescribable bro🎶🎸🎶🎸🎶🎸

What a treat hearing this for the first time. I'm a huge fan of Highway Call. Got to see Mr. Clemons a few times in a local coffee house what a great player and entertainer. Thanks for posting this.
