Dickey article and interview from Billboard

Another one from Goldmine.

Enjoyed reading those. The show that was used for Dickey's new release was the best of the ones he did in 2018 but time and I suppose life style have taken their toll on Dickey. His guitar playing was much better than the first several shows where it was surprisingly weak. Way too many clams and miscues to use for a DVD and surprising for someone of Dickey's talent. Only thing I've seen that was similar was B. B. King a couple years before he passed. B. B. had to sit as Dickey does in 2018 rather often and B. B. just couldn't bring it. Hopefully he was a little better the next show but B. B. was in his 80's. Dickey just can't sing anymore but perhaps he can get his guitar playing in better shape if he goes out in 2020 but I doubt it.
I'll buy this to support the effort but when I'm in the mood for Dickey I have some real strong live shows plus Fillmore East, Eat A Peach, Brothers and Sisters, Highway Call, Wipe the Windows and other albums is what I play. I want to hear Dickey when he could really sing and play that guitar.
This maybe okay to have in your collection but it's like looking at a film of Mickey Mantle playing baseball not in 1957 when he won the triple crown or in 1961 when he hit 54 homers and almost put it on the roof of Yankee stadium, but a film of Mickey playing in an old timers game were age, drinking and wear and tear keeps him from barely running the bases if he did manage a hit.
I'm beginning to like Allman Betts Band more and more. I think they may be something to see for the next five years or so. Then I'll be 77 and if I'm still living, probably can't remember who the Allman Brofhers were and I'll think Lyndon Johnson is President.

I’m with ya! You are a treasure of a poster and I always appreciate your insights. I listen to Wipe The Windows as much as anything else because it is that version of The Brothers in all their glory. Very unique versions of some tunes

betts had health issues though and was clearly not up to par. was it heart issues and a stroke? dave davies took years after a stroke to be able to somewhat sing and play guitar at the same time. dave davies has talked about it a lot that after the stroke he was unable to sing and play a the same time for years and had to start all over again

Thanks for posting these.
Notice the part where Dickey switches the topic to Duane and Devon in that Goldmine article and also his comment about "inheritance"? Makes me think even more that the live album he just released was more about supporting them than himself.

Blackey is one of my favorites also.

Getting old sucks....Maybe eventually Dickey can release some music that he has had shelved away.
