Happy Fri in ABB-land!
Another great Derek interview, with some tasty waves of enlightenment upon some topics us music freaks can sink our teeth into.

Really liked hearing how their return to the Fox was unsettling as it approached, but turned cathartic for all. Love the Kofi / extra layers of magic comparison! Spirits in the room indeed!

On the new album: Recorded "14-15 tunes, and a lot of ideas are still floating around. We recorded all to 2-inch tape with classic microphones, an old console … it’s a different pace. You can record so quickly with Pro Tools, but there’s something nice about having to rehearse your parts and it’s like a performance. I’ve been enjoying that part of the process; the sound is so warm and inviting." Hell yeah! As Otha Turner would say "Take yo time boy, take... yo... time!"

Sounds like they'll stick around on Sun and take part informally at Kebbi's Music in the Park event in West End (or West Beginning as some local activists like to say): "It ends with about 80 musicians walking through the streets playing music. This will be the first time the whole band is around, so we’ll park the buses and bum rush it." http://musicintheparkatl.org/

Playing in Atlanta, esp outside: "There’s something about playing an outdoor show in Atlanta that feels like home. Doing Music Midtown in the ‘90s was always a blast, and then with the Allman history and Piedmont Park, it just always feels right in Atlanta." When DTB played the (free) Dogwood Festival oh so many ages ago, a couple weeks after they did an instore performance at a record store in Buckhead for their ep release, and when signing my disk, i said "thanks for playing Dogwood fest; it was a great vibe in the Park; musta been like the ABB days" and he just smiled and said they really enjoyed it.

So glad there will be a live stream of this w/e Sweetwater 420 fest headliners!!!

Derek "gets it" (of course)
