DEEP PURPLE's New Album Tentatively Due In February

DEEP PURPLE's new studio album is tentatively due in February 2017, singer Ian Gillan has revealed in a new interview with Antihero magazine.
The follow-up to 2013's "Now What?!", which was tracked earlier this year at a studio in Nashville, Tennessee, was once again helmed by Bob Ezrin, who has previously worked with KISS, PINK FLOYD, PETER GABRIEL, ALICE COOPER and KANSAS, among others.
Gillan also talked about the PURPLE songwriting process, explaining: "DEEP PURPLE was different than any other kind of writing I do with other people. DEEP PURPLE is primarily an instrumental band, and the routine is we book [time] in a studio somewhere, and the [other] guys [in the band] come in at noon. They start jamming and they work 'till six o'clock, take a break at three for a cup of tea and then do that every day. Roger [Glover, bass] and I listen to the music and clock out the occasional bit and think that might be okay for a tune on the album or something. Then we start refocusing on making arrangements and how to develop the song. Then when it is all tucked away, I start thinking about the lyrics and the tunes. There is no point before they get literally torn up every day because everything changes every day. There's no shortage of things to write about lyrically. There is no point trying to create a tune on something that's going to change in a couple of hours. That's how it worked with PURPLE. This is primarily an instrumental band. I just climb on board and write it along."
DEEP PURPLE — which has been eligible for induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame for two decades now — finally entered the Rock Hall as part of the class of 2016. The band's first three lineups were inducted, including drummer Ian Paice, guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, late keyboardist Jon Lord, and various singers and bassists — Rod Evans; Ian Gillan and Roger Glover; and David Coverdale and Glenn Hughes.

Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

can't wait

Always interested in hearing what they put out - have not been blown away by anything new from them in a long time but like them live and will continue to give their new stuff a listen.

They're last one was pretty strong. I would like to hear them with more of an edge and less produced sounding.

They just keep on rolling.

I'm grateful that they still believe in making new music, making albums, even if the profit is probably not great. I wish the final lineup of the ABB had had this attitude.
While I don't find that the Morse-era Purple reached the heights of 1970s Purple, .I still love these albums.. every one has some worthy tunes. I wish they would rely more on these 5 albums in their setlist.

me too. deep purple have been great since morse joined.
I agree about the post betts ABB too. I won't try and rank the 1990-present ABB studio albums, they were all great to me, but I wanted 1 more release. hittin the note was fantastic and I was worried when it was first announced. betts had been carrying a big load of the songwriting even since brothers and sisters and without him I didn't know what to expect but man they hit it out of the park

I wish they would rely more on these 5 albums in their setlist.
I have been beating this war drum for years about bands like DP and UFO. I think at this stage of the game ,IMHO, I doubt they are winning over a lot of new fans, but I could be wrong. I believe a good percentage of the people that go to the shows are hard core/lifers. Nothing would be more thrilling for me to hear them whip 3-4 deep tracks during a performance along with the standards.
They have a enough to rotate set lists also. Play some more Morse era tracks.
I think the Stones did this a few years back where they had fans vote on songs to be played for a tour. Why not do a social media poll on they're official website and have people suggest/vote on songs to be played and take a few suggestions from there. What would it hurt?
