Just saw the movie and I have to say it was somewhat depressing. I enjoyed the flick but his life seems so tragic. From his drug addiction to his horrible attitude to his super ego. He has always been my favorite vocalist from CSNY and I still love his voice but as a human being he is sorely lacking. He said not one of his friends still speak to him, including CSNY and Roger Mcguin. They made it appear in the film that he doesn't have much time due to heart issues and I almost took the film as his way of saying he was sorry. Just goes to show that talent doesn't always make for a good person. Anyone else see it and what were your thoughts.
You don't mention the name of the film. I'd like to do a search for it but a bit difficult not knowing the title.
I really liked his first book, thought he laid it all out straight, warts and all, and have followed him off and on
through the years. He can still bring it.
Sad about the movie, from your review, his interviews are about the same.
Great talent, not sure why he was such a cantankerous dude.
He had the money, the babes, the smarts, the success, the friends, until he team them off.

FWIW, he is putting out music and also performing music at a higher level of quality and quantity these days than most of this peers.
The name of the movie was "If i could only remember my name". Even the music of today issue was tinged with sadness. His wife feels he is going to die and every time he goes on the road she thinks she won't see him again. One of her lines in the movie was " I wish he had chosen his family ", meaning he chose the music which he freely admits. Another sad part is that he is afraid to die and says openly " I wish I had more time". Don't misunderstand me i liked the movie I just never realized a lot of this. For instance i didn't know he went to jail for years and even spent 4 months in solitary confinement. After his release he said the judge who sentenced him saved his life. The one that i think hurts him the most though is Nash. He seemed to have extra remorse for that relationship and Nash talks about it ALSO and said " sometimes you say things that you can't take back". I would recommend it but it's not uplifting.
Where did you see it? I thought it came out later this month?
It's in limited release in small Art Cinemas. My son saw it and enjoyed it.
It's David Crosby: Remember My Name & has been around since the 2018 Sundance Film Festival. It's available for purchase on DVD on amazon so probably rentable at a video store (if you're near one of those rare old places.) Don't confuse it with a vinyl I Wish I Could Remember My Name.
I read somewhere 20 years ago the trio always arrived separately and the magic
was strictly on stage. Dudes had some talent.
Curious about the fallout with Graham. I was at a Steely Dan show at The Beacon several years ago (07? 08?) and Graham and David were seated a few rows behind me. Obviously they were getting along then.
I beleive Crosby made a comment about Nash divorcing his wife of 40(?) years for a much younger woman.
I heard a couple interviews with Crosby about two weeks ago as he was making the media rounds to promote the movie. One was on "Fresh Air" with Terry Gross I believe and the other was "All Things Considered." He also was on Fallon's late night show with Cameron Crowe in which he performed with the Roots and sat down for an interview afterward (I believe there was a thread in this forum with that performance).
In the Fresh Air interview he gives a great deal of credit to Roger McGuin for the success of The Birds, talks about how he doesn't consider himself a great musician and that his son is a truly gifted and far more capable musician than he is. He was also very honest about CSN and how the past few years of touring together were not enjoyable and was basically going through the motions each night mostly for the money...
I have yet to watch the movie but hope to see it when I have the time...I must add that when I watched the clip of his performance on Fallon I was blown away at how good his voice sounded and how easy it seems he's able to sing so well, especially at his age ...His voice is truly a gift from god..

At least David is bold enough to show his faults in books and film and I give him credit for that. The multiple times I have seen CSN they have been nothing but stunning but all of those were 15-20 years ago.
I know CSN maybe 10 years back were working on a record of Beatles covers which was going to be produced by Rick Rubin but the project ended up falling apart. Too bad, it would have been great to hear that. I remember Crosby commenting in an interview that doing the Beatles was such a very difficult task, especially the vocals.

Saw it last night, glad I did. Sad that none of his former partners will speak with him, even if he brought it upon himself. I was curious what Stephen Still issues are with Crosby.

...I am a huge Melissa Etheridge fan and I was shocked when she and her ex wife chose Crosby as the father of their baby. Not sure I would have wanted that gene in my kid.

That is three posts so far mentioning assault on Crosby. Can you be a bit more specific? Such extreme treatment calls for more than casual consideration.

How would you feel if your wish came true and Crosby was "beaten to a bloody pulp in an alley" ? And the assailant said he got the idea from a poster on HTW who mentioned assault on David Crosby every time his name came up?
