Dave Grohl's Star-Studded Birthday Bash

Imagine for your next birthday you got to phone your favorite rock stars and ask them to play on stage with you singing your favorite songs.
And they said yes.
That's exactly what Dave Grohl did before his show Saturday night at the Forum in L.A.
Fans were invited to a somewhat impromptu Foo Fighters concert with a post from the band on Facebook and Twitter on Wednesday that read simply: "Hey Los Angeles—What are you doing Saturday night?"
Tickets went on sale the next day and sold out the 17,000+ capacity arena immediately.
Believing they were there for a Foo Fighters' concert, fans got their first surprise of the night when the band opened with "Detroit Rock City" joined on stage by Paul Stanley of Kiss.
Several songs into the Foo's set, they got their next surprise when Tenacious D (Jack Black and Kyle Gass) took the stage with Slash to lead the crowd in singing "Happy Birthday" to Grohl, and launched into a cover of Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song" and Queen's "Tie Your Mother Down."
By the time Alice Copper joined them for "School's Out," followed by Zakk Wylde on Black Sabbath's "N.I.B." and "Fairies Wear Boots" (with drummer/guitarist Grohl on bass confiding, "I don't know how to play this f**king thing"), and then Jane's Addiction's Perry Farrell adding "Mountain Song," it seemed like the crowd would've been ready for anything.
But seeing David Lee Roth take the stage was still a welcomed shock, considering he has no real history with the band. Grohl, a huge Van Halen fan, told the crowd that Roth was the one call he made to someone he hadn't collaborated with before. True to form, Diamond Dave lit up the Forum, and rocked Van Halen's "Panama" and "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love."
The last guest of the night, Motörhead's Lemmy Kilmister, joined Wylde, Slash, and the band for the finale, playing Chuck Berry's "Let It Rock." A lifelong Motörhead fan, Grohl's famed Studio 606 features a large Motorhead flag and photos of Grohl and Kilmister together.
Ten dollars from every ticket was given to music industry charities: MusiCares, Sweet Relief, and the Rock School Scholarship Fund.
