I have to disagree with the premise being put forth by author Jedd.
My opinion is there are three main types of original American Music.
Blues, Jazz, and Appalachian Mountain Music.
Then the sub genres from those.
So I will say Dickey was influenced by the Appalachian Mountain Music as opposed to what the author calls "country".
As were so many of the great Bluegrass Musicians.
Having seen Dickey Betts perform in the 1970's, 80's and 90's, I can say for sure Dickey is a player who is at his best "live and in the moment".
When Dickey is playing live, very few performers can match his intensity and fire.
I would love to see Dickey do a small acoustic tour with a bluegrass backing band.
