The Jeff Shero Nightbyrd Collection Auction

Saturday, December 5th, 2015 10:00am

Burley Auction Gallery is proud to present the lifetime collection of Jeff Shero Nightbyrd, a Founder of "The Rag", "The Austin Sun", & “RAT” in New York City and editor of the Los Angeles Free Press. A legend of the 1960s counter culture movement, he worked with the leading Graphic artists of the 60’s & 70’s.

"At the public level, I thought the stock market was rigged so I spent my extra money buying art and posters from my friends. Of course a lot I gathered were gifts from artists who worked for me at various publications."

The Auction is full of what made Austin the cool, weird place it is today. Authentic Vulcan Gas Company posters, Armadillo World Headquarters Posters, as well as original signed Poster Art from Jim Franklin, Bill Narum, Ken Featherston, Michael Priest, Gilbert Shelton, early Frank Kozik, Guy Juke, and other Armadillo Art Squad members that Jeff collected over the years.

Rare, cool relics from Old Austin, the 1960s & 70s counter culture movement & Austin including the complete signed and numbered set of American Indians by Jack Jaxon. Also featured is the scarce Seidemann signed and numbered nude of Janis Joplin.

And from other cultural hot spots - a good representation of 60’s San Francisco art including rare posterssigned by Mouse, Moscoso, Wilson, Kelley, Griffin. There’s more, including early psychedelic posters signed by Peter Max , as well as the entire set of 24 RAT posters from a limited edition of 100 and a Pablo Picasso large peace poster of dancing children. This is one of the most unique collections of rock culture poster memorabilia in the world.
