Pretty Cool. I have hundreds of them in a storage unit I decided I wouldn't toss just in case something like this would happen. They have a fair amount of them at Reckless Records in Chicago. They are pretty cheap and I still have two pretty good stereos that play them. Time will tell if they kind of take off at all.

I still have some squirreled away as well, but I sincerely doubt there will be any sort of comeback.

Someone want to buy mine? 😉

I have thousands. Hundreds of 90 minutes with an album on each side, hundreds of live stuff being given or traded, tapes from my 4-track, tapes of the audio checks from radio shows. Audition tapes from artists/bands. Audition tapes from radio announcers.

Boxes of them that were bulk erased in radio. Always told people not to use expensive tapes for audition tapes as people in radio/music would say cool and just pass it over a bulk eraser and.....brand new tape.

I still have at least 100 blank 90 minute in wrapper. Even more 60 minutes as they were better for my 4-track.

I will let Lee start the bidding. 😛

I don't think the fad will catch beyond those shirts that have a cassette on them.

Does this mean it is possible that everyone will throw away their cell phones and just go back to the good old days. Even a busy signal would be refreshing.

I have a few precious cassettes that have gold on them for various reasons.

One is a Mule show in Montreal that I have long considered one of their best. They played for hours and eventually brought out Big Sugar with them for a third set. The Mule is absolutely blazing. Every version that I have traded for on CD is from a different source and their are always strange edits and never the complete show. The one I have is from an amazing source and complete. Had discussed with some on here years ago about transferring it in our early days on the site. Capt Skipper had a full plate.

Another tape is a night of jamming that I did years ago with different people coming and going but Jeff Healey and I tear it up pretty good. Bad recording sadly as it was just a hand held cassette recorder but still cool.

Same type of recording that has SRV warming up.

A tape that Metallica gave a buddy before they were ever signed. The writing is by hand. he loved them and thought that I would. I didn't. But still cool.

Hey James I'd be happy to digitize (leave it raw or/and tweak it) that Mule show for you.
Let me know.

I hear ya. I have the KSAN broadcast of 8/73 from Winterland with a Johnny Sandlin interview at the end on cassette. For decades, this was my source. Dickey Betts live from the Roxy in L.A. (KMET) which I attended...and so on.....and on..

I think it's because this was the way to go when I was 16-25, I had a Teac deck w/dolby and an equalizer

Memories...
Cool

Hi Stef

If that is something that you want to take on then sure. It was the first show in Montreal which I'm sure you were at.

Do you have a copy? Is it complete? Don't want to work on something that you already have. LOL

I have always like the quality and sound from the cassettes I was given. You could give it a listen to see if you agree and think it worth while.

Is it too early to beg for a complete CD copy of this when it's done ? 😉 Smile

Shoot. Just last year I sold my car that had a cassette player and bought one with a CD player. No kidding.

Before Steve Jobs and the Ipod I remember (?c 1969) getting my first cassette player. It came with a two minute free sample tape. I recorded CCR "Bad Moon" as it was less than two minutes long. Then I tied the cassette player to the handlebars of my bicycle; drove through the neighborhood blasting it away like a badass pimp.

And Bob; sorry to hear you sold the car. I actually have a 12 year old convertible that a few months ago I accidently hit a button revealing a virgin tape player that I didn't know I had

No I wasn`t there... I only became a fan in 2003 when CHOM were playing Firing Line.... at that point I had tagged ABB as as-beens without giving them a chance 🙁 .....long story short I went to TO to see the band that summer.... I was hooked!!! It`s now 29 concerts (20 ABB, 4 Mule, 3 GAF, 2 DTB) later Grin

Again I`d love to transfer that Mule concert.

PM me James when you have a chance... no rush.

Is it too early to beg for a complete CD copy of this when it's done ?

Don`t worry Andrew you`ll be taken care of.

Grin

With Andrew now curious, how could I say no? 😉

I have to look a bit, Steph but not too hard for that show I hope.

It is not a SBD but recorded very well. Equal balance amongst instruments and in your face. Warren is always real good but some nights he is on fire and this was one. Mother Earth alone was a "Holy Fu*k" moment.

The Mule was in a great mood as some friendly neighbourhood Canadian Mulehead had provided some across the border party favors. Smiles all around. Mentioned to Warren and the guys that Montreal would be interesting as the crowds are a little different.

The opening song and my buddies and I are stationed in front of Warren. There are a few guys beside us right up front also. These guys light up a half dozen Bob Marley sized joints. Instantly the stage looks like dry ice from all the smoke. Warren and Woody looked shocked as it was in a bar and took them by surprise. As these guys get those joints going around, they start lighting more. You can barely see Warren. The 2nd hand smoke alone would have a person messed up.

The early Mule played so loud that the buildings used to shake. This night was no different. Woody's bass was operating on my vital organs and it is still only the first song. Warren and Woody continue to chuckle as these guys just keep lighting joints. They are everywhere by this point. The club is one huge cloud of smoke.

Warren can no longer take it and is just smiling full blast. First songs ends and he makes the first setlist change of the night. The entire club is stoned from either first hand or 2nd hand smoke. No sign that these guys will ever stop lighting them either. Warren looks at Woody and Matt and without a word, they kick into "Don't Step On The Grass, Sam.

Hours later when almost all the smoke had cleared we sat around with the Mule and Warren agreed that Montreal definitely was different.

Just look at the setlist and you get an idea of what a killer night it was. The jams and improve are all long. If I recall correct this show is 2.5+ 90 minute cassettes. As I say, there are copies out there but whenever I traded for one it was always incomplete and often with real bad edits. If Steph thinks it worth while then glad to share.
