this is the first I've heard of Carla Olson. Any recommendations? Thinking of buying her CD with Mick Taylor ... she rocks up this Dylan song nice ..

Yeah I have a handful of her CDs. She rocks!
She had a band called The Textones that were country rock with an emphasis on the rock. No too far off from Tom Petty or early pre-weird Wilco. Che covered "Clean Cut Kid" on one of the Textones albums. She then went solo, and Mick Taylor is on some of her solo albums.
He is on 3 of her studio albums: Within An Ace (1993), Reap the Whirlwind (1994), and The Ring of Truth (2001). He is also co-headliner on a live album that you can find titles "Too Hot For Snakes" or "Carla Olson and Mick Taylor:Live," recorded in 1990. You also get some Ian McLagen and Barry Goldberg in there.
Out of those 3 studio albums I just mentioned, I like "Within An Ace" the best, and I really enjoy the live album also.
On that live one, Carla sings the Stones' song "Sway," and Mick really steps out on it. Mick sings "Broken Hands" from his 1979 solo album, and they do the instrumental he wrote with Mayall, "Hartley Quits," back in the 1960s, and they finish with "Silver Train."
She also did a lovely studio album with Gene Clark from the Byrds called "So Rebellious a Lover." It is more country-twinged.

pops42, that is definitely Carla Olson playing the guitar player role in the video - there is a lot of debate about who actually plays that solos, though most people believe it is Mick Taylor. He and Knopfler do have many sonic elements in common.
Midnight Mission by The Textones is a really good album.
As a fan of live recordings Carla Olsen and Mick Tayor's "Too Hot For Snakes" has been a favorite for a long time. Mick plays very well and Carla is sultry. It's a good place to start.
